Clay Buchholz Checks Out of Mass General And Heads Directly To Pool Party At Foxwoods
BOSTON (CBS) – Clay Buchholz just went through a frightening ordeal, spending five days in the hospital fighting esophagitis. Given what happened last season with all the “chicken and beer” shenanigans, one would think the Red Sox players — especially their pitchers — would take every step to stay out of the “bad” spotlight.Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Reports surfaced Thursday morning that less than a day after being released from the hospital, Buchholz was at a charity pool party at Foxwoods Casino. Buchholz was released from Massachusetts General Hospital on Tuesday after spending five days there, including some time in intensive care.Now he’ll have more questions to answer about the perception of a player recovering from illness not travelling with his team, but to a casino in Connecticut instead.

He already saw the shitstorm that happened when he went golfing with Beckett when Beckett was hurt and now 10 seconds after getting released from the hospital he’s partying it up at Foxwoods. Just incredibly stupid. It has nothing to do with whether this effected his body or anything like that. Obviously the guy was sick. Nobody is doubting that. But it’s all public perception. He had to know this would look bad and he just didn’t give a shit. It’s giving the fans a big fuck you. Same thing Beckett did when he refused to apologize and said his off day is his off day. No it’s not bro. You get paid millions upon millions of dollars to play a kids game. At least pretend like you give a fuck. I cannot think of a more non-story then this. Just because Beckett is an asshole does not mean its fair to paint a broad brush stroke. There is a difference between a charitable event and playing 18 holes.

@mberrett. on the field, i like the way he plays. he definitely doesn’t hurt the teams chances at winning but… his comments at the beginning of the season rubbed me the wrong way. referring to valentine with “he’ll soon find out how we do things in boston” and “maybe that’s how they do it in japan”. there was something shitty about that. i’m also sick of his five foot five pissed off face and he tries to create an amazing quote/tagline in every interview. that’s all.

This is such a non story. The TEAM said he was allowed to go. It’s not like he did it behind their backs, it was a charity fund raiser. If he got permission from the team, while they are on a road trip, why is that something to be up in arms about?
Maybe chilling poolside is better for his digestive system than getting on a plane and traveling. Let the guy get some rest and relax. It’s a long season, dude just went through a painful week in the hospital. Maybe hanging with friends at Foxwoods having fun helps him recharge his batteries.
Despite what everyone thinks, playing a kid’s game at the MLB level is serious hard work. You don’t just kick around a dusty glove. You train, practice and play hard. Pitching, practicing is serious strain on the core, his core just spent a week in the hospital.
