How Many Decades Did Tonight Set Back Notre Dame Football?
Listen it takes a man with a huge dick to admit when they are wrong. Tonight I am that man. I was wrong about Notre Dame. They are not better than Alabama. I made a mistake. I guess I’m human after all. But it’s time to stop pointing fingers and playing the blame game. Instead it’s time to look to the future. The question now becomes how many decades did tonight’s debacle set back ND football? It’s not just that they lost. It’s that they were humiliated, degraded, embarrassed, cuckholded, manhandled on National Television. Manti Te’o went from a first round draft pick to a practice squad guy. The Irish would have 100% been better off losing to Stanford or Pittsburgh rather than have to go through that public execution. Because isn’t a loss you just bounce back from. This is program ruining. What recruit would ever want to go play for a team like that? I’d almost rather be Penn State right now than ND. That’s how ugly it was. So I’ll throw it out to the Stoolies? How many decades did tonight’s game set back the Irish?

They do have the number one recruiting class at the moment. If they ha a semi decent QB this might be more of a game, but their D is exhausted from a miserable performance by their offense. Don’t mean to be a dick but I did predict 34-13 for a reason. ND athletically doesn’t match up. But I bet they are back in a BCS next year

I would hate to be factual on the stool…ND just took the lead in the recuriting pool for 2013. We wiull know if tonight set them back 1 year or four, within the net two months. Notre Dame will be fine. #1 recruiting class in the nation and a highly attractive school. Golson is back for 3 more years and the secondary will come back much more experienced. Truth is they just werent ready for Bama, they were in that game two years to early. Embarrassing night, but a bright future and much to be proud of. Pretty sure Te’o's bank account will still have much more in it than yours ever will Prez. Yes Notre Dame got punished, but most teams going against a coach in Saban and a team in Alabama that has 6 weeks to prepare is likely shit out of luck. ND finally became relevant again, have a pretty solid coach in Kelly, and clearly recruit exceptionally well (top recruiting class this year). By no means am I an ND fan, but I can honestly say that them being good is great for college football. ND was clearly overmatched tonight, but they’ll still be competitive in college football for years to come.

This may have been the best thing to happen to ND football in 20 years. They know now that their schedule is not strong enough and that they need to play at a higher level. they have underclassmen with a lot of talent and a good recruitment class. All the Notre Dame fans saying that this loss is okay and that they will be back and stronger next year are fucking delusional. All the stars aligned this year and ND was able to run the table and had a shot at the national title. They would of been ran out of the building by a lot of SEC teams. A&M or Georgia would handle them easily and South Carolina, LSU, or Florida are most likely better than them as well. They are losing their heart and sole on defense in Te’o and the apparent speed differential is not going to be made up any time soon because all of the athletes in the south stay in the south. ND is going to be close to a National Championship caliber team next year either.
Maybe being a life long Sox fan has made me immune to heartbreaking loss or I’m just in denial about ND’s tonight but either way I have faith that Notre Dame’s appearance in the National Championship isn’t a fluke and they will continue to grow as a program and continue to compete for the National title. Or maybe it is just the Jameson talking, not sure right now

Oh and the ND being good is good for college football always slays me. Yeah, college football, this niche little sport, needs some incredibly overrated, media-boosted team to be good so it can truly be appreciated on a national level. Such a self-important and flat-out stupid thing to think.
Bama was simply better. Def wasn’t Golson’s fault. He’s a talented QB. The ND O-line couldn’t contain the Bama d-line to set up any sort of running game and the ND front seven played like total dogshit. LSU got shut out and embarrassed last year and were a top 10-15 team this season. ND has very talented freshman and sophomores and the #1 recruiting class per Rivals and ESPN at the moment, so they’ll be fine. They overachieved this season but are on the trajectory to be a perennial top 10 team. No shame in that.

Congrats to Alabama for their shellacking of my Irish. They were obviously the best team in college football. They are a machine/dynasty. Their offensive line is most valuable to their dynasty.
This does not set ND back at all. In fact, it gives them and arguably the best 2013 recruiting class a belief that they are relevant again and that they do belong there. They got a sniff of what they could have won. But they know what they need to do to get better and the experience of getting their a$$ whipped like that is major incentive.
Remember how mediocre ND football was for the last 15 years, for many reasons. But they are back and they will be in the conversation again each year. And it IS good for college football when ND is good. They have a national following that no other school has.
How can you belittle ND’s schedule? That is the most exaggerated statement that the ND haters make. ND plays anyone anywhere. They honor their longtime traditions as well with Navy- a much greater opponent than playing a IAA school like many of the SEC teams schedule. And they schedule teams nationally for 3 and 4 years in advance. A strong team in 2012 could be a bad team in 2015 and vise versa. So get off the schedule thing.

I know they don’t play air force/army every year. Every once in awhile they throw in a few juggernauts like BC, Purdue, and Wake Forest (next year Temple). Fact is if ND was to join a conference they’d be a mid-level team playing in the Pinstripe Bowl
Please…go play Murray State and Savannah State. Temple is actually a much improved team than we are all used to seeing.
ND is independent because they CAN be. NBC (Notre Dame Broadcasting Company) is reason enough. What other school has a national TV contract? The answer is NONE. Conferences would love what ND would contribute financially to the conference.

Another thing I would like to point out to cory and all the SEC swallowers and ND haters…is that ND does not recruit 30 guys a year and throw away the ones who get hurt or don’t develop like ‘Bama, LSU, etc. ND honors their scholarship commitment to the person all 4 years. And they get a solid education- much more difficult to shuffle academics and football(since you brought up academics J. Ho) SEC is crooked and pathetic when it comes to recruiting and academics.

There is much to say about having great academics combined with great athletics. I would much rather root for a tradition rich institution with high standards unlike many other schools like the SEC that don’t demand the same.
