Is This The Biggest Hardo Move of All Time? Axl Rose Refuses To Let Himself Get Inducted Into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame
Boston.com - Axl Rose announced Wednesday that he won’t be showing up to see the band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and declined the honor for himself. In a letter to the hall, band fans and “To Whom It May Concern,” Rose listed several reasons for not attending Saturday’s ceremony in Cleveland, including a feeling that the hall does not respect him. In declining his own induction, he added: “I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf.”The hall said in a statement that it still plans to induct Rose with the rest of the group. “We are sorry he will not be able to accept his induction in person,” it said.
In terms of hardo moves does it get any bigger than this? Refusing to let yourself get inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. It kind of reminds me of when the 1972 US basketball team refused to accept their silver medals. Just an empty podium with their medals sitting in a safe, collecting dust waiting to get picked up. At least that protest had a point though. I’m not sure what refusing to go into the Hall of Fame does for you? They aren’t saying Guns N Roses gets along or likes each other. Just that you were a great band. But that’s what makes it such a great hardo move. It doesn’t even make any sense.
I heard this last night and was impressed. Who refuses to get inducted into a Hall of Fame? If xnxx sent me an email saying I was first ballot HoF I’d accept with pride and brag about it. I feel like hardo doesn’t even do this move justice.

No band captured the excess, insanity, and ferocity of rock and roll better than GnR, the fact that they were unable to hold it together as the pure power of their personalities and success and addictions ripped them at the seems irreparably in and of itself deserves acknowledgement, but releasing arguably the greatest first album in the history of music and rounded out their short run with two albums that have not been surpassed in scale and ambition since their release just puts the nail in the coffin As a child of the 80′s no band inspired so much fear and awe as GnR, and it’s simply insane to question their impact on the rock and roll landscape.
Watch this and tell me it isn’t a perfect encapsulation of rock and roll.

Regardless of Axl’s insanity, the fact is, GnR was one of the best rock and roll bands of all time, and not being inducted into the RnRHoF would be almost criminal.
Frankly, the more I think about it, I think this is great.
A) That is the most Axl acceptance speech Axl can possibly give, a big “its all about me, fuck you everyone” when being honored, it is so perfect.
B) I’d rather them not get back together at this point, no reason to, they were a grenade that exploded, there is no putting that back together, we should all just count ourselves lucky we were there to catch some of it when we were young and impressionable and that we have so much documented of the ten year long explosion.

This is a complete slap in the face to everyone whoever bought a CD, T-shirt & ticket to a show. Having seen the origianl lineups many times from 89 – 93 I think it a fucking disgrace. I went to the recent show at the DCU center and came away impressed, I had a great time, however that being said, everytime a Chinese Democracy song came on you could see everyone running for another beer. The fact that he can not put aside his drama and childish antics for 4 hours and one night is completely selfish, childish and self absorbed. He should also call what it is now Axl & Friands or Knives & Posers…..Supergrove has no idea what he is talking about either go back to Jay Z and the Spice Girls you douche
i met a dude who was a tour manager for a lot of major acts for, it think he said 25 years. told me all types of stories about ac/dc, van halen, madonna, and bob dylan, whose tour he was currently managing. some were about cool, down to earth people, most were about ridiculous behavior that he had to talk their way out of with venues, hotels, etc. so he told me how when he was the stage manager for guns n roses, axl would routinely walk into a bar in whatever city they were at, he’d pick up a chair or stool, and just bash in the jukebox. obviously the bar staff would react and start flipping out, and he’d just calmly slap 2 grand in cash down on the bar and just be like, “shut the fuck up. buy another one.”

G&R is one of my favorite rock bands ever. Yeah Axl is an egotistical douche, but they wrote some amazing songs. I think November Rain may be my favorite rock song of all time.

All you guys thinking for even a split second that GNR shouldn’t be inducted into the rock hall of fame are outta your fucking minds – LUDICROUSLY insane, certifiable 100% – Every single fucking song they dropped was pure unadulterated liquid gold – they embody Rock N Roll – they were/are THE LAST true “rock n roll” band to have come out of the USA. They would have been the US’ Rolling Stones/Led Zeppelin. If you wanna take the time to read Slash’s autobiography you’d realize even he subconsciously concedes it was really the rest of the band that destroyed themselves – Axl was/is an egomaniac, was/is a total mood swinging psycho SOB - but he was not a drug addict to the extreme like the rest of them, he wasn’t wandering around aimlessly – guy had a distinct vision for what he expected the band to become and the rest of them were too fucked up or stubborn to realize. Slash basically wanted to reproduce Appetite over and over again. Axl wrote most of the lyrics and alot of the music to many of their songs, he’s the one with arguably one of the most if not THE most distinctive voices in the industry – like it or hate it, guy has range and tone only somebody like Chris Cornell can rival, and he still didn’t sound as gritty.
If you listen to Chinese Democracy start to finish you’d hear how the songs flow into one another, how Axl is almost telling a story similar to how a rap artist like Jay Z would deliver an album, is it different than old GNR? Sure. But its still good. Great bands reinvent themselves, AKA Foo Fighters, Green Day, and RHCP – but the rest of GNR never wanted to continue evolving and that was ultimately the band’s demise.
Say whatever you want about Axl being an egomaniac, whatever – guy has never changed his tone nor has he continually tried to grab the limelight his whole life, in fact he’s the opposite- stuck by his “guns” never changed his story or his persona and retreated into anonymity the best a world renowned rock god could.

GnR wins the lifetime “Most money left on the table” award. I mean, my god, just one 20 date reunion arena tour would be the highest grossing live tour ever, and there isn’t one former band member who doesn’t swear it’s their pure white hot hatred for Axl that keeps that from happening. Maybe one of you GnR superfans can school me on whether or not this is the real beef: I heard that after the band called it quits, and because Axl owns the rights to the name “Guns N Roses”, that Axl went back and re-recorded all the GnR hits with a studio band. That way, whenever you need a GnR song for a movie, commercial, etc. You pay less of a price for Axl’s identical version and he gets 100% of the profit while the rest of the guys get zip. If there’s a shred of truth to that, I think it’s got to be the biggest financial dick move in rock and roll history.
bostonworm, you make some good points, but by the time the band was dying (94ish? Remaining members from the Appetite years weren’t gone until ’97), everybody was clean, and they just wanted to do different things. Axl was way too uncompromising to make any music that didn’t conform to his vision–hell, the story goes that nobody else was really on board with the style of UYI, let alone what he tried to execute with 30 fucking musicians in Chinese Democracy.
If you read anything said or written by the members of the band at that time, there are 4 or 5 matching stories, and then Axl’s version. It would be hard to believe if all this time, Axl was the one telling the truth, and the other guys had concocted a story to blame the demise of the band on Axl.
That said, even though Axl was likely the main reason for the death of GnR as we know it, he is also the most responsible for their success. Slash was and is a fucking badass guitarist, but Axl was responsible for most songwriting (music and lyrics) and composition. If that weren’t the case, Velvet Revolver would have been about 100x better than they were.
At any rate, these guys DEFINED rock ‘n roll in the 80s and into the 90s. If they don’t deserve to be in the HoF, nobody from that time does. They didn’t last long, but if you wanted to make a sports metaphor, it would be as if an NBA player averaged 50-20-20 for 5 seasons, then quit suddenly. That fucker would be in the NBA HoF, hands down.
