Kevin Youkilis Lectures Fans On Why They Shouldn’t Care About Sports
BostonHerald – Kevin Youkilis helped put needed perspective on passion and sports when the subject of his becoming a “hated” Yankee came up in a radio interview yesterday. In the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., tragedy, he noted, it makes sense to pause to adjust and redirect our energies. “There’s a lot of problems in our society today,” Youkilis said on WAAF. “I feel like there’s a lot of hatred and a lot of bad things. It’s the way we treat people from the early going as kids, but the kids only learn from adults. The adults are the ones that teach these kids hate. That’s why I say, at these Yankees games, Red Sox, there’s hate — there’s so much hate. We need to adjust the society and just love each other a little bit more each day. I don’t know if that will change the outcomes in life, but I think it will help.” Youkilis wondered aloud why there is so much intensity when it comes to sports. “Why is it so crazy in sports?” he asked. “This tragedy happens, we have all of this craziness. People are going berserk over a sporting event. It’s wild. It’s wild to me how people can react and act with so much hate in sports. It’s supposed to be a release from your everyday life.”
Youk is such a pompous asshole. And I’m not just saying that because he’s on the Yankees now. I’m already on the record as saying I don’t begrudge him for doing that, but cut me the song and dance about how there is too much hate in sports. How the world would be a better place if people didn’t care so much about the Yankees Red Sox rivalry. Stop trying to make any parallels between sports and the Newtown shooting you idiot. It’s insulting to even mention those two things in the same breath. Like yeah I think people get that winning a baseball game isn’t as important in the scheme of life as some madman shooting up an elementary school. We don’t need a lecture from kevin Youkilis about priorities to clear that up. The point is brah if fans didn’t care as much as we do and didn’t “hate” their rivals you wouldn’t make the millions you do playing a kids game. This is just an absolute pet peeve of mine.
