Martinez Vs Chavez Jr Round 12 Will Go Down As One Of Best Final Rounds In the History of Boxing
In case you missed it Sergio Martinez was dominating this fight to the point that Chavez’s own trainer Freddie Roach basically said Chavez had no chance of winning only 2 rounds prior in a ringside interview. Max Kellerman openly wondering whether Chavez could do anything to just salvage his reputation in this final round. All Martinez had to do was stay away and he would have won an easy decision. Instead he choose to fight and he almost paid for it in spades. This 12th round instantly bringing up memories of Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor. Just one of the most dramatic, greatest rounds in the history of boxing. And I don’t care what anybody says rounds like these are why I’ll always love boxing more than MMA. MMA can never match this. They just can’t. The reason boxing is dead isn’t because of the sport itself. It’s because of the morons who run it.

Pres, that shit sucked. You had me pumped up for a Corrales-Castillo level finish and it was just a decent last round. MMA has just as many great finishes, only the person who deserves it usually wins.
Just watched this masterpiece Live and mostly agree with you. Except i think boxing is dead becuz the majority of great fighters are choosing to fight MMA. Long gone are the stacked up weight classes, the tysons, the bowes, the Sweet Peas and the Oscars. Alot of great amature boxers end up training and ultimately fighting MMA. I do agree however that the dicks running the sport are primarily to blame…but there just arent as many great fighters out there right now as there were when we came up. Plus there is just no drama in boxing anymore. MMA is pretty much like the WWF, only real. Im a huge MMA fan but boxing will always be my favorite in the fight game.
Both earned their check tonight. Sick of watching boxers pussy foot around the ring the final 4 rounds because they know the only way they can lose is by getting KO’d. While boxing has fell out of the mainstream in america, in placed like mexico, europe, and the south pacific boxing is stronger than ever.
pres you don’t know dick about boxing, you asked for the link to this fight like two rounds before it ended. nice job regurgitating everyone else’s opinion though.
p.s. i would love to break your big jew nose.
Meldrick Taylor is a drooling retard now.
Hey Pres aren’t you supposed to be creeping on 18 year old girls covered in foam right now? What are you doing watching a boxing match?
“in case you missed it” This was an undercard fight, so i’m sure plenty of people missed it. And what kind of half assed fighter intentionally goes through the motions in the end of a fight? You don’t know anything, read a book
if that’s one of the greatest rounds in boxing history then i’m glad MMA has taken over
That was a $50 PPV main event fight everyoneisretarded you fuckin clown
that was fucking terrible. I’d rather you post a video of some kid getting knocked out outside a bar. At least then we get to see a couple blows landing. fell asleep watching that shit.
saw the undercard on espn3 then
I concur… Can’t believe that spic almost knocked him out in the last round… Wait what?
pres you just want to call that one of the greatest rounds of all time because that is the only round you have ever watched live
That was fucking garbage. I watched most of the fights tonight and got really excited when I saw the link. You obviously know nothing about combat sports. Please shut the fuck up. The sport of boxing is dead. It has been completely corrupted. Unless you get a real mma or boxing writer on this blog, never fucking bring it up. You know nothing about either and shouldnt try to sound like you do.
Who are MMA’s biggest stars? Who is gonna be bigger than Canelo?
Kirk, I’m really interested in your answer in particular. You seem really bright.
Kirk has a point, you need a MMA writer of Jerry or Rear Admiral’s caliber on this site or I fear that every post like this you make, you’re probably gonna take a whole lot of well-deserved Bama beatdowns. The fact is that MMA is constantly evolving… Boxing? Can’t even devolve when you’re already dead.
FYI Davie Pageviews, it hits the heart of your demographic too. Get on the bus.
I love how people say MMA has taken over, boxing is dead blah, blah, blah. The UFC has to hold a record on how fast this sport has declined in popularity over the course of a year. It is so watered down you can’t even compare it. Let’s have a few no names fight each other and then the main event have Rich Franklin against some other guy no one wants to see and charge you 50 bucks and we will do this ppv 50 times a year.
Boxing needs to take a lesson from MMA in terms of round counts. 3 rounds for a regular fight and 5 rounds for a title fight. The fights are more exciting because the fighters need to go balls out throughout the entire match. Imagine a heavy weight boxing match where two guys didn’t shuffle around jabbing each other for half an hour.
And Pres doesn’t know shit about boxing.
Not even close to Ward vs Gatti 1.
Pres, you’re an idiot. Do me a favor and watch round 9 Ward vs Gatti. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71tRlcy5Nbo&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Gatti-Ward 1, round 9 was 100 times better. Both fighters throwing haymakers, both fighters hurt.
Love boxing but MMA has passed it. In boxing, only Floyd and Manny can draw ppv buys, 2010 top 10 ppv buys UFC-8, Boxing-2 (Floyd/Mosely & Manny/Margarito). 2011 top 20 ppvs UFC-18, Boxing-2 (Manny/Marquez & Floyd/Ortiz). UFC did 17 million ppv buys in 2010-11.
otwisted — PLEASE show me the links where you got your information from becuase that is a flat out lie
yo
Not even close Pres…..not even close
@RJJ here you go. http://thesportscourier.com/content/estimated-ufc-and-boxing-ppv-buys-2011 http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=270&t=1083336
It was 7-3 UFC in 2010 not 8-2 missed the Pac-man/Clottey fight, my bad
And Manny/Mosely in 2011 UFC 17-3 of the top 20. The font fucks with my eyes, too much beating off making me go blind. However UFC has a 24-5 advantage. but my point stands Boxing is all Floyd & Manny.
Fuuuuckk!!! 24-6 why cant I fucking count properly right now!!! Not even fuckin hungover.
It’s amazing how people still say “boxing is dead.” Last night, boxing had 2 shows about 10 miles apart in Vegas. Both sold out. Neither show involved Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr. Yet I was always told that other than these two guys, boxing didn’t have any big draws. Guess again.
@Amorphis
Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva, and Jon Jones are all bigger than Canelo. Jones and Silva have global Nike deals similar to Tiger Woods, Derek Jeter, etc. Those are just three champions with a ton of sponsors. Theres a ton of other guys that are well known even if they arent champions. Most boxing fans only know or care about the guys at the top of the division(of which are there so many its a fucking joke) and cant name other guys on the rest of the card. Thats not how it is in the UFC. Even guys who will never hold a belt or seriously contend are well known fan favorites just because of the way they go out and perform. You cant pad a record and cherry pick opponents in the UFC. You either win or you 2 or 3 times and get cut.
@cocoapuffs How has it declined in popularity? The sport is spreading globally at a tremendous rate. The UFC’s reality show The Ultimate Fighter has gone international. They are having their second Brazil edition begin filming, the Austrailian and British versions are currently filming, the Indian version will be filmed by early next year, and they are looking into doing it in China and Japan as well. True the ppv numbers arent as high as they had been a couple years ago but you arent taking into account that the UFC used to only put out one card every couple months. We have a ton of cards now every couple weeks. Not to mention UFC has signed a huge deal Fox and has been having free cards on Fox, Fuel, and FX which all do very well in the ratings standings.
You’re going to try and justify that this sport is better than MMA because of one fight where someone won 11 rounds and then got knocked down in the 12th, only to win? You’re retarded.
So i would of had to suffer through 11 rounds of boring boxing to get to this somewhat exciting finish? No thanks. I’ll take 3 rounds of dudes beating the piss out of each other with smaller gloves and many more skills.
@cocoapuffs Oh and the Rich Franklin fight you were talking about? He stepped in to fight on a couple weeks notice because Vitor Belfort got hurt. The guy he fought? Wanderlei Silva is extremely popular, even more in Brazil where the event was held. And the reason you may not have known most of those fighters on the undercard was because it was the finale show for The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil so obviously those guys arent very well known. It was hugely popular down there though with over 20 million Brazilians having watched it so again, your arguement is wrong.
otwisted– are you kidding me with that? lmao. seems like a really legitimate site you gave me there.
Ya, great round, Dave. Had me at the edge of my toilet seat for the whole 2:49.
RJJ, you sound like someone in denial, those numbers are facts regardless regardless of the site. Do your own search, you will find those stats hold true. Fuck even the Klitchkos can’t even sell PPVs and they’re the HW champs, they’re always on HBO.
i grew up watching tyson, holyfield, lewis, and even caught the end of the hagler, hearns, and leonard careers. even in my late teens and early 20s, there was the ward-gotti trilogy, and every one of those was an all out war. boxing used to be top-flight. now so many guys go the MMA route instead of boxing.
i like MMA too, and if the nature of the sport were a little different, i might like it more than boxing. but basically i just want to watch guys trade punches, preferably bareknuckled. you want to throw a kick to face in there, be my guest. but the wrestling aspect of MMA is for the birds. just an absolute snoozer. as much as i respect the ability to take a guy to the ground and choke him out or put him in an arm bar, it is boring as FUCK to watch. the second you stop swinging on the ground, you should be stood up. i need raw brutality, not two sweaty dudes hugging each other.
Hagler v. Hearns. Greatest 3 rounds of boxing, period. Almost looked like a Rocky movie.
