Should Celtics Fans Boo Ray Allen?
ESPN – The Miami Heat have scored another free-agent coup, convincing Ray Allen to leave a richer offer from the Boston Celtics and agree to sign with the defending champions, agent Jim Tanner told ESPN.com. It is believed Allen will accept the Heat’s mid-level exception that starts at $3.09 million and could be worth a maximum of $9.5 million over three seasons. “

Boston, where Allen had played for the past five seasons and won a championship in 2008, had offered Allen a two-year deal at double the salary for $12 million plus a no-trade clause.
Heat owner Micky Arison celebrated the news by tweeting,”Its 2:30am in London and I was just woken up with great news. Welcome to the family #20.”
According to multiple league sources, Allen had become frustrated during last season when the Celtics offered him up in trade talks and then stripped him of his starting job in favor of the younger Avery Bradley. Allen, who averaged 11.9 points and shot 35 percent on 3-pointers in the Eastern Conference finals loss to the Heat, also had a deteriorating relationship with point guard Rajon Rondo. The Heat’s offer to Allen centered on playing with James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in a variety of lineups. “HeatNation continues to grow,” Wade wrote on Twitter late Friday night.
I just got back from Nantucket and I got this shitstorm to deal with. Ray “Benedict” Allen going to the Heat. Now unlike a lot of Celtics fans I’m not totally mortified by this decision. Maybe because the rumors had been floating around for weeks. Or maybe because the only time I even started caring about resigning him was when the Heat entered the conversation. Before that I honestly didn’t give a shit. It’s like being totally at peace breaking up with your long time girlfriend only to see her start dating your biggest rival and then you freak out. Like really? That’s how you’re going to do me after all these years? Just kick me right in the nuts? I thought we’d always be friends. I guess not. That’s pretty much what happened here.
So now the question becomes whether Ray deserves to get booed when he comes back to Boston? For me the answer is absolutely 100% yes. Total no brainer. He plays for the most hated franchise in sports right now. He accepted less money to go to Miami. He is willing to come off the bench for the Heat but not for us. He took the easy way out to try and win a cheap title. All that loyalty he earned with Celtics fans is gone. I’m no longer going to pretend that his 0-38483 shooting performance in Game 7 of the NBA finals vs. the Lakers didn’t cost us a title. I won’t pretend that he didn’t disappear time and time again in big playoff games. That he is brutally inconsistent. That he was slow as molasses on defense.
The bottomline is Ray Allen lost his job to Avery Bradley because Avery Bradley was a much better player at this point in their careers. So I understand that maybe it was time for Ray to move on, but not this way. Not by spitting in the face of Celtics fans everywhere and signing with the Heat. Like I said automatic boo. Automatic. I just hope Momma Allen has fun in her bedazzled Heat shirt wiping Gloria James asshole whenever she shits because that’s what her new life is going to be like. And when Ray’s career is over and he’s done playing with Miami I won’t hate him. I won’t boo him. I’ll just have apathy.
People need to stop looking at this as a homer and start looking at it from Ray Allen’s point of view. The Celtics desperately tried to trade him last year and they benched him for Avery Bradley. He has the chance to play with a Big 3 that are all at least 6 years younger than the Celtics Big 3 as well as play in a city like Miami to end his career.

Why would Allen have any loyalty to the “Celtics Fans” as to turn down an offer to join one of the best teams in the (horrible) league? Allen was only here for 5 years. Not like he was born and raised in Boston, was drafted here and played his entire career here. Not really sure why people can’t separate a fans loyalty to a team and a professional players loyalty to a team. Allen was a class act all the way in a league full of douchebags. Good for him for going to what he sees as a better situation.
The Celtics signed Jason Terry essentially replacing Ray Allen’s role. Why does Allen owe the Celtics any loyalty? Starting from last season, the Celtics kind of ousted Allen out of Boston so why would he stay there? Good move by Ray Ray in my opinion.

Let’s clear up this issue that he turned down more money from Boston.. I don’t know if you guys realize this but Massatooshits taxes the fuck out of people, there is no state income tax in Florida and the cost of living is significantly less. I look at the deal as about the same money but Miami offered him one more year. Also Ray won’t have to run his ass off through 3 picks before he gets open, all he has to do is stand in the corner and wait for a pass. The only team with a chance of beating Miami in 7 is the lakers with Dwight howard.

The first time he comes back, people should cheer the shit out of him. He’s done so much for the C’s in his 5 year here. He broke the all-time 3-point record in a Celtics uniform. The C’s lost that game and it was still an unforgettable moment. Cheer him when he comes back, he deserves it. But only once. After that cheer, boo, flip him off it doesn’t matter. So long as you cheer him the first time he sets foot on the floor.
