Welker Out…Danny Amendola In
Lose one receiver, add another: Patriots reach agreement in principle on five-year deal with former Ram Danny Amendola, per league source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 13, 2013
Fuck you Schefter, but good job breaking this story. About time your holding 2 phones all day on ESPN paid off. Listen I love Wes Welker. I already said that. But in my opinion Danny Amendola is better than him at this point in his career. This was an upgrade for the Pats. That’s why I never worry or question anything Belichick does. He’s a machine. The man ALWAYS has a plan.
PS – Looks like Gronk has a new wingman. Solid looking dude. All the cleat chasers in Boston must be psyched to have new dick to break into the Gronk, Seguin, Edelman, rotation…

Pres, no problem with the hat tip there. Glad I could help. Nice job of pulling down that last post to put this up.
And yes, Amendola is better at this point in his career. From a Bengals fan I’d just like to say blow me to the rest of the AFC. My team is doing nothing in free agency.
#teampizza
Yep, a chronically injured wideout who’s never played more than 7 games in a season is better than the patriots all time leading receiver.
you can’t go a few blogs without judging the looks of a dude can ya pres?
Solid looking dude? God you’re queer. Tell Renee I’m around this weekend
the pats sign a player and your take on it is that hes good looking? jesus
notcheating, he actually is. In the Pats system Amendola will light it up just like Welker did. This isn’t coming from someone who likes the patriots either. He just will.
Wasn’t there a blog somewhere around here about people wearing beats headphones….
This guy could get coughed on by Terry Schiavo and he would break his collarbone.
youre a fuckin retard Pres if you think Ammendola is better than Welker…12 games played last 2 yrs.
This signing is fucking retarded.
@Jdarts, you do remember Mike Brown is your owner right? Maybe the cheapest motherfucker in all of pro sports.
Welker was great, but no one with a brain believes Welker would have done anything he did if he didn’t come to the Patriots. Does anybody remember Welker when he was with Miami? No. Nobody does.
http://nyc.barstoolsports.com/m/random-thoughts/subway-thief-steals-beats-headphones-off-dude-singing-obnoxiously-loud-on-the-d-train/
And there it is.
literally no upgrade/downgrade. same fucking player, just more injury prone. stupid.
I can buy the injury thing, but I don’t think you can sign guys based on whether you think they will get hurt. I guess we’ll see. Pats should cut Gronk then too.
Hey jdarts85, keep your chin up. You’ve got 2 games against the Browns every year. Granted the Pats get 6 against the Bills, Dolphins and Jets… Yeah you know what, never mind. Your football life kinda blows.
otwisted, no I know, trust me. It’s my nightmare. The thing is though they have 54 mill to spend and they have to spend it or lose it. Even that cheap motherfucker has to understand that concept.
I’m all for letting welker go, but they should have just re signed edelman and then targeted big play wide out.
Amendola’s cap hit is $2 million, they can still sign Edelman and their combined cap hits will be less then Welker. Depth.
Both went to Texas Tech. Both went undrafted. That’s where the similarities end…NOT. Same exact fucking player
otwisted, it’s not depth if both the guys you sign to replace welker will play less snaps and catch less passes than welker
put your feelings on welker aside. amendola can ball. now sign some guys on D that will rip dudes heads off
@greg stiemsma, I can’t even argue. Not gonna try. I can’t believe I haven’t swallowed a bullet yet.
Nice Wes starter kit. He’ll be hurt by game two. Can’t coach tough as fuck…
Danny Amendola, Brandon Lloyd, and Michael Hoomanawanui. Christ McDaniels, are you gonna trade Brady for Sam Bradford too so you can get the St. Louis band back together?
A team will still not win another Super Bowl. A team must sign Ed Reed.
jdarts, at least you’ve got AJ Green. Something to hang your hat on. I would blow Andy Dalton and eat a bag of his ginger pube clippings if it meant I could get AJ Green here for 1 season.
@Jacoby, you clearly don’t know what the word depth means. Depth means when one guy gets hurt there is a capable replacement. They still have depth even if they play less snaps than Welker. You do understand Welker got all those looks because Gronk and Hernandez barely played together all season due to injury? With those two healthy you aren’t gonna need 100 receptions from the slot
@jdarts: The Dolphins tidbit is pointless, when have they done ANYTHING right in recent history? It’s not smart getting rid of a guy that flourished in the system to replace him with someone that can’t stay healthy. Also, fingers crossed that he’s not the next Ocho Cinco or Galloway or basically anyone not named Moss.
@Jdarts, I thought Mike Brown died and the org has been doing a weekend at bernies for years now. Allegedly they are back to their cellar dwelling tricks.
they could have had the exact same depth by signing welker and edleman. whats your point here? you dont think they could have gotten a deal done with welker to soften his cap hit? you’re banking on amendola and edleman to be healthy? thats a lot of risk
ficken-die-hocker, that comment was fantastic. But I gotta be honest, I’d probably blow Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft at the same time for one year of Tom Brady(and your o-line).
@notcheating: or welker..oh wait that doesnt help ur argument
I find the timing of the two deals interesting, obviously the Pats had no real interest in re-signing Welker, why did the wait until Welker was signed before the announced the Ammendola deal? I have to figure the Ammendola deal has basically been in the drawer for a while. Any chance they were trying to make other teams think the Pats would stay in on him to drive the price up for other teams some of those teams being direct competition for a championship? Denver, Houston, Indy? It also helped welker get more money.
Amendola isn’t better than Welker right now, but if he can stay healthy than he will be pretty darn good. Also, I knew you were going to comment on his looks. I’m not going to call you a fag though because I know that spending a week gossiping with your woman on vacation can rub off on you. You have to shake it off though.
notcheating, what I was saying was that in the Dolphins system Welker had done nothing. He was just your prototypical short, white slot WR. He didn’t do anything till he got to New England. I’m not saying he may not have become a solid WR at some point, but nothing like what he was with the Pats. I mean the guy averaged like 110+ catches every year, right?
lets face it ficken-die-hocker, you would blow dalton and eat his pubes for free gayboi
blowme, you wouldn’t? I mean your username insinuates you would.
@BeerNuts: Try again, this time try to make sense.
Morons shreiking about Welker signing with Denver are too funny. I don’t understand why Kraft doesn’t just hire a run-of-the-mill fan to run the shop. I’ll go with Belichick, I don’t care what he does. Anyone who is a lifelong Pats fan like myself who isn’t a bandwagon 21st century fan, knows just how pathetic they were as an organization and a team. No Superbowl coming this year but I’d be surprised if they didn’t make the playoffs.
Solid looking dude? What does that even mean?
@Jacoby, we looking at possibly Amendola, Edelman, and another player (CB,SS) for the price it would have cost for Welker and Edelman. They offered Wes $5 million a year and he told them to beat it, that’s as cap friendly as they could go with Welker. And don’t say they could have given him a big signing bonus, those get spread out among years against the cap. They only wanted to go 2 years, a signing bonus wouldn’t have done anything.
cleat chaser and resident old lesbian creep el schnoze to ball wash young male athletes.
you are sean mcdonough of this generation sports “writers”
@jdarts: Fair enough, I just wanted to point out that Miami isn’t known for it’s football IQ and that the Pats are banking on a guy who’s perpetually hurt and have no idea if he’ll pick up the system. All this while paying him the same money they could’ve invested into a guy whose production and health weren’t an issue. It’s a high risk, equal reward move and that’s why I’m not big on it.
Amendola is a monster. Going to Vegas this weekend no doubt I’m putting a bet I him most receptions and most yards
Pres do you even watch football you fucking moron? Listen I like Amendola. I’ve been a fan of his for years and I’ve followed his career fairly closely. But the fact of the matter is, Amendola can’t stay healthy. He’s very injury prone. Welker on the other hand is statistically one of the best receivers in the league and he has the ability on any play to change the course of a game. You’re the ultimate pink hatter dude
Otwisted; the problem with signing amendola and edleman is that you have two guys with injury issues playing essentially the same position. thats a lot of money to put into the possibly the 4th receiving option. if they dont get edleman they dont have many options for if and when amendola gets hurt. at least with welker you know he’s tough as nails. they sure as hell be preparing to sink the rest of their money into CB and S like you said
Amendola is not a 4th receiver
@Boo, if you have Gronk, Hernandez, Brandon Lloyd, and amendola, who do you throw to last?
This is not high risk same reward. He’s signed for 5 years at 27 years old. If he stays healthy..i know big if..thatll be big reward for cheap moeny.
Solid looking is right. Yeah, he’ll look “solid” while he’s on the sideline nursing his sore cunt half the season.
If amendola doesn’t get hurt, the pats should be fine, would’ve been nice to get Kruger too but oh well that’s why the browns hired Lombardi
wiki: On 6 October 2012, Amendola suffered a dislocated clavicle and.[20]
Pres your chat app sucks…in a rare case, instead of popping out, the clavicle popped in and came millimeters from puncturing his trachea and aorta, which could have killed him. Rams’ medical staff called around the league for information but no teams had ever had players suffering a similar injury. Amendola was anesthetized before popping the clavicle back into place. Due to the unusual nature of the injury the Rams were not certagin when Amendola would return, but he was able to recover after just three weeks and recorded 11 catches for 102 yards in a hard fought tie with the
@BeerNuts: Really? High risk = giving out a 5 year, $31M($10M guaranteed)to a guy who has never played more than half a season without going down. Same reward = IF he overcomes his career tendency of injuries AND projects out to Welkers production rate, he’s still no better than Welker; and Welker was only $2M more guaranteed.
Jacoby, Welker and Edelman have had the same amount of injuries, 1. Also you get 2 for the price of 1. Edelman will probably sign for $1-1.5 million, so you get Danny and Edelman for around $4 million whereas Wes was $6 mil, you an now take that extra $2 million and sweeten a deal for a top cornerback or safety. Also, Brandon Lloyd is a lock for getting cut, anothe $3 million to sign someone else.
When this guy plays a whole season AND makes 100 catches he will be as good as Welker, until then he is cheap replacement. By the way, how many receivers have come in here from other teams and been successful? Just two, Moss and Welker.
Pres, how about that new Pope? Is he ‘solid looking”?
You’re obviously forgetting he gets hurt every other game
@notcheating: if he projects out as welker and they have him for less money and more years then yes that’s high reward.
100% chance Pres posts Amendola as the “Guess that ass” by week’s end.
cleat chasers? did Seguin pick up soccer during the lock out?
also danny better than wes??? my fantasy team would have liked to differ
Feitelnerd is a pawn trying to play Chess. See: KFC Radio.
What’s awesome here is What team in the league replaces a white skill player with another white skill player???? New England that’s who… Brady, woodhead, gronk, Edelman, amendola. Belichick is pro white and that my friend is vintage. Now its time to load up the D wit savy vets and its on.
I’m 100% straight male who loves women, but things like the p.s. are why i love this site. people who complain are just closet homos or can’t get chicks
You guys can stop pretending to care about the Bruins now. Pink hats.
you should just be happy benard pollard was cut from the ravens
jdarts, i read all your dumb comments on the NY site too. if u actually think Amendola is better at anything than wes welker is….. at any facet in life…… at any point in his life so far………kill yourself now. Moron. Welker is prob top 3 slot receivers ALL TIME and will be for another 4 years. Amendola is pretty good. Thats it. Just pretty good. Oh, and he’s made of glass too. Fucking pussy. The Pats just got considerably worse. Fact. Deal with it you Kool Aid drinking loser. BB didn’t want him cause Welker doesn’t play good soldier. Good business decision. Letting personal vendettas determine your future. Good call Bill. Dummy
@plange: nobody went nuts when we traded for welker..he was a jag. Same for amendola. If bill has done anything right its been working with slot recievers…brown welker now amendola. As an aside I love how if anyone defends bb it koolaid. Not sure about you but the koolaid has tasted pretty good the last 12 years. Dont worry im gonna go kill myself now. Jackass.
@notcheatingnottrying I’m not saying that Amendola is better than Welker, but he has played in 11 or more games in 3 out of his 4 seasons in the nfl. get your facts straight bro
@plange: If you’ve watches Amendola play hes a high-motor, fiery guy. I don’t think in any way is he a pussy. Last year when he seperated his shoulder it popped into his socket instead of out and if went any deep they told him he would have died. The rams trainers had to call around the league to see if anybody has dealt with that injury to get some insight and nobody had. If you watched him walking thorugh the tunnel at the end of that game he was livid that he had been injured. Theres a difference between hurt and injured. If he gets “hurt” too often then hes a pussy maybe, but it seems hes had some bad breaks and been injured. Lets wait and see how it goes.
It pretty easy. Welker was a consistent Pro Bowl level receiver..Danny is not, he is maybe third string. He will start because we literally have nobody else, but he won’t make anywhere near the impact Welker did and you are an absolute fool if you think he will. Welker is possibly the best slot receiver of all time, that has nothing to do with the system and everything to do with his abilities. IF, and that is a huge IF, Danny can stay healthy he might be able to give us half of what Welker does. So you have teams no longer needing to double Welker..guess they will cover our only other big threat in Gronk and there you go. You will notice Welker’s absent fairly quickly when we are facing more 3 and Long situations next year because Brady has no one to dump short passes to. But I’m actually amazed at how stupid people are..”Oh yeah just replace Welker no problem” Because it would be that easy for the Viking to replace AP, Lions to replace Calvin Johnson, Falcons to replace Roddy White….its no problem when you lose your strongest offensive asset( Not including Brady in this obviously)
Apparently white smoke in the Vatican means “let’s play musical white guys”:
http://aidanfromworcester.com/2013/03/13/new-pope-upstaged-on-big-day-pats-replace-welker-with-injury-prone-welker-jr-bob-kraft-is-ballin-on-a-budget/
You are all idiots, mostly you Portnoy. Heres the truth:
Welker and belichick had a personal beef, this is why belichick has been trying to weed him out of the offense since last year. Bill hates him for dropping clutch passes in the postseason and just flat out doesnt like him, probably something that happened behind closed doors. He benched welker vs the jets in the playoffs after the foot comments. He started edelman over him in week 2. But since wes is so damn good, they had no choice but to make him the focal point of the offense. Wes has said before “It always feels good to stick it to Bill every now and then” Bill refused to give him the money because he doesnt like him, yet he gave ochocinco guaranteed 6 million before he even stepped in foxboro? because he loved ochocinco as a person.
McDaniels has so much influence on their offensive signings. He was in St louis for 2011, you think its a coincidence we got Lloyd, Hoomanawanui AND Amendola from STL when Mcdaniels was coaching them?
Its not a matter of money, they are giving amendola more per year than denver is giving welker and they sure as hell dont value amendola more than welker over the next 2 years.
Pres, if you seriously think amendola is better than welker at this point in his career you are an idiot who is using that to try to cop with this. Welker has put up over 1000 yards and 100 catches in 5 of his last 6 seasons, with 37 TDs. Amendola has 196 catches in his 4 seasons total with 1700 yards and 7 TDs. he is an injury prone cripple who cant compare to the toughness of welker.
Welker had to go at some point because Bill couldnt stand him, but dont say amendola is better than welker, who is arguably the best slot reciever in football history, amendola hasnt done shit in his four years.
Bill did not do this because he values amendola more than welker over the next 2 years, especially considering that amendola may be getting carted off the field before week 4. welker is only 31, you’re telling me he wouldnt be just as good until hes 33? Bill wanted to stick it to wes by giving amendola more money than wes is getting. They could have easily coughed up 2 million more to make a run at Wes, instead of coughing up 31m/5 for an unproved player.
I like the potential in amendola. But dont say hes better than wes (or even in the same conversation) and dont say it was a matter of money or potential value. Bill does what bill wants and he wanted welker gone a while ago.
How about we sign some of these fucking quality defensive free agents before the well is dryer than Queen Elizabeth’s cunt. WE NEED DEFENSE!!!!!!
beer nuts, When welker was traded here in 07 people went wild around here. he caught 67 balls W JOEY HARRINGTON throwing it to him!!!!!!! Dude was a stud then and still is. THIS IS A DUMB MOVE!!!!!!!
Hey plange, you’re the biggest hardo the internet has ever known. Congrats on that. My point was, dickhead, that within that role in that offense it’s pretty much plug n’ play if you can find the right type of guy. Amendola is the right type of guy to take Welker’s place. You can call me dumb, moron, pussy…whatever you want, that’s totally cool. But to act like Welker was even in the same league from a talent standpoint as a Green, Megatron or others is hilarious(and that’s no knock on him). Production wise, of course. Point is he is replaceable. He benefited from a great system. If you fail to see that to some degree that is very true the only jackass is you. And if you think Amendola made them “considerably worse” you really are one dumb son of a bitch.
But hey, they’ll win 12 + games again and everyone will say “see, we’re great”. Then lose in the post season like they’ve done every year since 2004. They cannot win with BB running the defense. Hire a real D coordinator (not a stoodge like Matt Patricia) who can help evaluate defensive talent in the draft cause recently, BB is Cleveland Brown quality when it comes to coaching and evaluating D.
And Plange, based on your dumb fuck comments I’d be willing to bet your IQ is around 75-80. Holy shit.
@honeynutmelo here are the following problems with your retarded “argument’: 1 does bill hate harrison for failing to prevent the luckiest catch in nfl history? if so why does harrison still praise bill? also we all know the coach has say when it comes to signing, but u make it sound like it was his choice and his choice alone. also, do u think the organization would put its own differences with one player before the teams success? it seems you think a team would go out of its way to spite a player instead of trying to win. welker went through the cycle and didnt do what he should’ve done in the playoffs. your theory that the team would rather spite welker is ridiculous. u literally should jump off the nearest structure over 10 feet, k? shithead
J Darts, maybe they should get rid of gronk and hernandez too then. Just “plug in” a couple of big tough tight ends that have potential. Thats all it takes right? Just the system. I love you guys on this site. It was Ray Allen a couple of months ago and now its Welker. So much fun watching the Patriots continue the Regular Season dominance then die EVERY year when it counts
Darts, if u can point out one comment i made that wasn’t fact ill stop embarrassing you and let you sleep soundly tonight…………haha, like thats really gonna happen!
Oh and plange, if you actually read my “dumb” comments you’d already know I’m not even a Patriots fan. I’m just calling it as I see it from an unbiased, outside standpoint. So there’s no koolaid drinking on my part ya dumb fuck.
Slot receiver and TE are two totally different positions. Apples and oranges argument there, plange. Nice try though. I’d love to sit here and eviscerate your dumb ass all night but I gotta get some sleep.
Sign a new QB, tommy is washed up.
Hey pledge. Just shit up and go away until you watch an nfl football game or two.
@notcheatingnottrying he played a full season in 2010 moron….
To all the stoolies crying, whining, or cheering Welker leaving the Pats, or fantasizing you know what the fuck Belichick’s personal relationship with any of his players is (like some sort of mind projecting fucking psychic psychiatrists), or being able to predict the future of the Pats offense and why the fuck it will be so much worse, or so much better, next year without Welker? Get a fucking grip. If you are an actual Pats fan that remembers the shitshow we endured here on an annual basis prior to Kraft buying this team and his eventual hiring of Belichick then you should know we are riding the huge fucking wave of the Golden Era of the Patriots. This team has been good for well over a decade now and it will be good next year too. I don’t drink all of the kool aid and want Bill’s sack across my chin but his numbers speak for them self – a 151-57 record & .726 win % in regular season, 17-7 .708 % in playoffs, Post season play in 10 of 13 seasons (and that includes his first year here with a bunch of clowns he didn’t pick), 5 AFC CHAMPIONSHIPS, & 3 SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONSHIPS. Pats are in the mix and relevant every fucking year. Just check the internet anytime to see how many millions of jealous assholes fucking hate the Patriots and their fans. Nothing says “RELEVANT” louder than that. Now dumb fucks could either be happy with that or maybe move to Cleveland and follow the Browns, or worse – just become a Jets fan. Me, I think I’ll enjoy the ride because one day soon in the future Belichick is gonna retire- and I remember the days when the “Patsies” sucked. So for now I think I’ll let Bill & company handle the personnel decisions. As for Welker? Congrats Wes. Gotta go where you’re wanted & where the money is. Thanks for the memories and the level of play you worked hard to achieve while here. Good luck in Denver – and even when playing against the Pats – as long as the final score is in our favor.
@con I think bills ballsack is dragging across your face right now if you memorized those stats or took the time to look them up.
Shoulda just kept fuckin Welker this guy gets injured more then Tim the Tool Man Taylor
This is a big f’in mistake. Brady is supposedly enraged, as he should be. Look, true Boston sports fans know it takes a certain type of mentality to succeed here. A lot of players come in with all the measurables, and then wilt under the pressure. We don’t know until they show up and put on the uniform. Welker was tremendous here, a complete warrior for the past 6 years. This assclown move could be the difference between getting past Denver over the next 3-5 years in the AFC.
your so fucking stupid portnoy way to follow the leader. show some balls you queer
looks like big cat
What was his “master plan” when he lost twice to the Giants in 4 years fucktard?
@gunner – That’s cute. I know those stats because I’m not 15 and only think winning a Super Bowl every year is a successful season because the Pats have been good my whole fucking life. Check history. This team sucked for a long time. As for the won/loss and winning % numbers? Internet. About 15 seconds. You fucking neanderthal. I’m not working from a dial up modem in mom’s basement. If there’s one thing certain in the Belichick era it’s this: Don’t pay a shitload of money for that NFL gameshirt with the players name on the back and then cry because it was only relevant for one season. So you butt hurt because you just got that Welker shirt last season or are you just a Jets fan?
Amendola = Fool’s Gold
So when this guy is your best receiver next year, you’ll fawn all over him and say he’s the greatest fucking thing ever. Idiots.
Amendola will have a yeast infection by week 3. Guaranteed. He’s softer than my dick when I jerk to Octomom porn.
@ con settle down bro, ranting paragraphs isnt exactly the best way to get back at a commenterr who hurts your widdle feelings. Hardo.
@gunner – Hardo? Hardly. I actually laughed at your comment. You can’t hurt my feelings. I don’t have any. Unless you taunt me about my mom or my tiny penis. Sarcasm doesn’t come thru the internet very well. I just have to laugh at the “fans” of the Pats – or any team – that get all pissed off about personnel decisions they have no control over. But just for my own benefit – what is the best way to get back at a commenter that hurts my (nonexistant)feelings? Insult mom? Or their tiny penis?
@asshole617 no, why the fuck would bill hate harrison for not preventing that catch? he was playing great defense, he did everything he could to prevent it, it just just a fluke catch. thats completely different from wes dropping an easy catch TWICE. and its not as much about the drops as it is them hating each other. and yes, bill is stubborn has shit and would let a personal gripe get in the way of the team, why else would they let him go. its not about the money and its not about the value. so what is it? answer me that you fucking idiot.
