Any first year econ student knows that it’s a lagging indicator, since people decide to make cuts once they’re sure the economy’s in the shitter, and don’t make hires until they’re sure it’s back out. So arguing about the last months/first months of Bush/Obama’s unemployment numbers is fucking retarded.
2. People are pretending that fiscal policy can completely turn around an economy on its own, regardless of the fact that the rest of the world is in a clusterfuck. Also, please take note: the countries that are instituting the kind of austerity measures that the right favors are currently going through harder times than the US. But by all means ignore this.

A lot of the austerity measures you’re talking about (for Greece, Portugal, etc.) came AFTER they accumulated huge amounts of debt and bailouts from the EU. A lot of the countries were fucked way before they tried turning to these austerity measures. The measures will never work, because the socialist precedent that has been set in Europe has groomed a strong class of people reliant on government benefits and programs. Economics aside, each of these countries may be in a better state than a man who is arguing politics on Barstool sports. Time for a long, hard look in the mirror.

Federal jobs should not be counted as real jobs; the Fed does not produce or create anything. Federal aid spent in RI is amongst the highest in the federal budget for the smallest state in the union, but yet we spend the least in infrastructure. Most RI federal aid is spent on Health and Human Services along with programs classified as “other”, meaning that sidewalk you dismiss out of hand, is not getting fixed. The fine democrats in this state boast one city in Bankruptcy, another in receivership and Providence with the largest budget deficits it has ever known flirting with bankruptcy. Let’s not even get into the death grip the unions have on this place. Stand in front of a firehouse in downtown providence and view the sign that says over 2000 days without a contract. Union led by a guy who had to leave his job because his union duties were so time consuming, only to be hired back at double his salary to do the same job he had no time for on a consulting basis. RI is an icon for failed liberal democratic unsustainable fiscal policy. Check out or dipshit governor tonight at the DNC I’m sure that will be a barn burner.

We are currently in a period of 1% growth – Obama has presided over the worst recovery in history while racking up $5 Trillion in Debt. Gross National debt just hit $16 Trillion. A full two million less people are working than in Jan 09 as labor force participation has hit a 30 yr low. We hit 17% unemployment at the end of 09…1 year into the current presidents Administaration. Since 2010 the unemployment rate has fallen to 14.5%. Which means jobs have come. We are no longer in large scale operations in Iraq, the world’s leading terrorist is at the bottom of the ocean, PRIVATE industry is making record profits each year and we now have a healthcare system designed not only to save us hundreds of billions a year, but to provide coverage to tens of millions who could not before have it. I can’t say I agree with everything this POTUS has done but he is sure as fuck a better option than Willard Mitt Romney. Cut tax and spend DOES NOT WORK..ever! It never has and it never will. Trickle down economics failed! Miserably. Pull your fucking heads out of your ass, turn off Rushball and go read a fuckin book for Christ sake.
that’s a good analogy, rolltide. people forget that a president inherits all the shit from the last guy. and it works both ways, before the republicans get all upset. bush got blamed for the real estate collapse by many people, but it was clinton who deregulated the banks who then in turn lent money to people who couldn’t afford it. clinton blew the bubble, but it popped on bush’s watch and he ate the blame.
