Tonight on HBO (Thursday) is the third & final Paradise Lost doc to wrap up the story of one of the 20th century's most incredible miscarriages of justice---the so-called West Memphis 3. Picture "My Cousin Vinny" if it was a horror movie & the prosecution wins. This was a straight-up witch hunt.
It's crazy that a pair of HBO docs saved one guy's life and got him & his two buddies out of the can.
It's also unnerving & more than a bit scary how foolish and head-strong judges and prosecutors can be, particularly when dealing with a death penalty case.
The huge cause celebre aspect was definitely a turn-off to many because of the left-wing nature of the celebs. But it was a little odd that there didn't appear to be any right-leaning celebs helping the worthy cause.
Poor Jason Baldwin got the worst of it (it goes without saying that the dead kids got worst). Kid literally did nothing except have a weird friend and got convicted of a triple murder of little boys (the other 2
were just as innocent but the slow kid gave a coerced confession after 12 hours and the perceived
leader's behavior during trial did him no favors and may have helped convict him). Your heart breaks for
the kid.
Can't recommend the first 2 enough & have no reason to think the final one won't also be great.
