Yahoo - When Des Moines Lincoln lines up to play Des Moines East on Friday, it will mark the second week without suspended football coach Tom Mihalovich. The coach and two assistants are sidelined as officials for Des Moines Public Schools investigate a situation involving a player who left the district. The player, Dante Campero, was forced to address the team and run after posting a negative comment about Lincoln’s varsity on social media. Sometime after now-No. 1 Ankeny beat Lincoln 56-27 on Aug. 31, Campero posted on Twitter “That’s why I don’t go to the lincoln game, because they get (expletive) destroyed by anyone whose (sic) half decent.” We know, too, that the former player was asked to stand in front of the team at practice the following Monday and recite what he’d posted — followed by punishment in the form of running. What followed: Lincoln began an investigation when the player’s family expressed concerns and, after Des Moines Public Schools assumed control of the inquiry, Mihalovich and two members of his staff were suspended. Gary Dickey, an attorney representing the player and his family, contends his client feared for his safety after being forced to address the team. Dickey says, too, that using running as discipline is wrong and understood to be wrong by many in the district.

Have we finally hit rock bottom as a nation? I mean a kid trashes his own football team on twitter and his coach forces him to address what he said in front of his teammates and run as punishment and the coach gets sued and suspended? The lawyer for the kid literally saying “using running as discipline is wrong and understood to be wrong by many in the district” Umm what fucking planet am I on? How is this possible? When did making a kid run and be accountable for his actions become illegal? I don’t get it. What would the parents have liked to happen here? Little Johnny gets patted on the ass and gets to play QB next week? It’s just bizzaro world. This coach taught this kid the best life lesson anybody could ever teach him. That social media counts.  Unfortunately he’ll never get the message because nobody is ever allowed to tell kids they fucked up anymore.  You just got to pet them on the head and tell them how awesome they are all the time.   And people wonder why we’re getting our ass kicked.   Because nobody is ever told they need to work harder, or be better or take accountability for anything they do.  Everything is always somebody else’s fault because that’s what they are taught their entire life growing up.
