hank finkel if you actually played hockey you would know that the whole responsibility of having your head up applies only when you have the puck. and youre right charas hit was late thats why he got a penalty but it wasnt a hit to the head so he didnt get suspended. rome on the other hand – elbow to head, feet left the ice, blindside hit, player without puck. hes done.

If that hit happens anywhere else on the ice (Chara’s) it’s a minor for boarding. Unfortunate place to happen, but that’s all it was.

Yes, unfortunate, particularly considering the circumstances surrounding Pacioretty’s scoring the game-winning goal the game before that while Chara was on the ice.  I don’t even know if this qualifies as irony anymore.

It doesn’t qualify as irony, it qualifies as factual discrepancy. I could explain it again  if your skill is really that thick. Rome’s hit was far more illegal than Chara’s. Which is why that EVEN WITH the knowledge that Chara was still pissed at Pacioretty they couldn’t suspend him. In the regular season. Rome will get at least a game or two in the Stanley Cup final because it was clearly more illegal. Thanks for playing.

You’re right, there was no issue at all regarding Colin Campbell being the league’s chief “disciplinarian”.  None at all.  From what I gather, nobody wants to see people getting almost killed on the ice.  Except when it’s not your team and it doesn’t matter to you.

No one was happy Pacioretty got hit. And I was the first to admit Paille deserved a suspension not too long after that game. Where was Colin Campbell then? And you think Colin Campbell only doesn’t suspend Bruins? The guy is to consistency what the Canucks are to toughness. He doesn’t even handle matters concerning the Bruins. And he won’t be the guy suspending Rome. And he wasn’t the guy who decided not to suspend Chara. Do you honestly fucking think Colin Campbell told the guy who handles suspensions involving the Bruins not to suspend Chara because his kid plays for the team? Give it a rest.

Merely pointing out the “discrepancy”, as it were, between the reactions to this hit and that one.  The end result matters.  If Horton stands right up, is it still okay for Rome to leave his feet?  If Pacioretty dies, is it still okay for Chara to slam his head into the stanchion?  Neither should have happened, and I wish people would acknowledge that.

Whether Chara should’ve been suspended or not, his suspension wouldn’t have been long enough that he would’ve missed the Stanley Cup too. It happened, its over. Chara didnt get suspended for Pac. Matt Cooke didn’t get suspended for Savard. That doesn’t mean Rule 48 karma just cycles forever. Rome’s hit was dirty, he followed thru with the elbow, and he targeted the head.
If the NHL doesnt suspend him for at least two games, esp. after the Burrows “inconclusiveness” shit, hockey’s gonna lose all legitimacy

Goddamn hot sauce, you’re an idiot. If the Pacioretty hit happened anywhere but that exact spot on the ice, it’s AT WORST a boarding call and most likely just a clean hit. It was very unfortunate, but you don’t get crucified because of a freak accident. You do get crucified for a late blindside hit targeting the domepiece.

Go back to watching a sport you actually know something about.

I’m sick of listening to people saying Horton has head down.  His head was not down.  Horton’s head was up, it was looking towards Lucic who had the puck.  I was there last nite, and that hit was absolutely disgusting.

If I were in charge of the NHL, I’d treat these types of hits the same way that MLB deals with steroids.  After the first one, you get 20 games.  The second, you’re out for 40 games.  After the 3rd, you’re banned for life.

And as a Bruins fan, I’ll admit that Chara did it on purpose, but it’s a hockey play.  Pacioretty knew those stansions were there, and he took a huge risk flying around the corner.  He lost.  Most guys know better than to go full speed near the stansions when you’re about to be hit.  They slow up or slam on the brakes.

Meh.  Not that bad actually.  The end result of both hits was the same, and my complaint has more to do with the fact that I wish the NHL had more of a response than “it was a freak accident” with regard to the Pacioretty hit.  Wishful thinking I guess.
