Stephanie’s Apology Presumably Written At Gun Point
ESPN – A Boston College women’s soccer player was suspended from the team on the eve of its NCAA tournament second-round game at Penn State after posting a series of incendiary tweets involving former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, who was convicted on 45 counts of child-sex abuse earlier this year. Sophomore forward Stephanie McCaffrey, the Eagles’ second-leading scorer, was suspended for Friday’s game after making light of the Sandusky scandal. BC athletic director Brad Bates said in a statement that McCaffrey’s behavior is not condoned by the university. “The student-athlete used very poor judgment and exhibited insensitivity toward Penn State, for which she apologizes,” he said. “This type of behavior is not tolerated among our student-athletes.”
This is an update from the story I blogged earlier today. Obviously Stephanie McCaffrey got suspended. Of course she did. I mean you can’t make fun of Penn State. Who would ever do that? God no! You can’t do that! She’s clearly the first person ever to crack a Sandusky joke right? Everybody has to hold hands and sing kumbaya and pretend we’re all one big happy smiley family in Happy Valley..
Again I’m not saying you got to like the jokes. I’m not saying Nitney Lion fans can’t call her a bitch. But do we really live in a country where somebody can be suspended for CLEARLY trying to be funny. Hey if the coach wants to bench her for breaking some internal team twitter rule that’s fine. But for the AD to get involved? To suspend her? For what? For saying jokes that everybody who plays Penn State thinks and says. To say jokes that were the punchline on every late night show in the country? And then to say this type of behavior isn’t tolerated among BC’s student athletes? That is the biggest crock of shit going. I mean did the BC AD not see that Sean Sylvia retweeted it and said how funny it was. So is he suspended to for laughing? There is just nothing I hate more than hypocritical bullshit and once again school administrators are proving nobody is better than them when it comes to talking out of both sides of their mouths.

Some might say the suspension comes because the Boston College AD personally supports Jerry Sandusky and/or supports (and possibly even participates in) the anal rape of ten year old boys. Regardless, BC might consider whether it wants to be associated with another anal rape scandal, with the Catholic church unpleasantness being so recent. It’s one thing to support the church, but defending Jerry Sandusky’s right to anally rape boys seems a step too far, even for BC. Wait, was Sandusky Catholic? Did he attend BC? Was Sandusky himself raped by a BC administrator during his time at BC? Isn’t it time for BC to stop promoting rape culture?
