(Fort Collins) – An aspiring teenage rapper accused of threatening his roommates with a knife was recording a music video about being surrounded by the SWAT team when a flash bang grenade went off in his Fort Collins home.Police arrested Josh Jackson, 19, late Monday and said he faces felony menacing charges. Jackson goes by the name Adequate Advocate and, in his rap, discusses his roommates and his family. The title of the video is “police are trying to murder me as I write this.” Jackson posted a series of Facebook messages earlier in the day about the 5th Amendment, which addresses search warrants and criminal prosecutions “Bring the motherf—— SWAT team, special weapons and tactics, operation,” Jackson raps. “I’m not a criminal, I’m political, and right now… Oh s—! You heard the blast. The video ends abruptly after the grenade goes off. Police exploded several of the flash-bangs late Monday night in an effort to get Jackson to leave the single-story rental home on Duke Lane, just east of College Avenue in Midtown Fort Collins. Police Capt. Jerry Schiager said of the man later identified as Jackson: “He’s got a history of resisting the police in the past.” Late Monday night, more than 15 marked police cars were in the neighborhood, along with the SWAT team’s Bearcat armored vehicle. Jackson also video recorded at least some of his conversations with police officers, and posted several Facebook status updates telling people he was unarmed.
Look say what you want about this kid. Does Adequate suck as a rap name? Yeah, probably. Is his flow bad? Well, it certainly isn’t good. His lyrics? Could use some tidying up. But I remember a time when rappers were fuckin’ killers. When they were Niggas Wit Attitude who screamed “fuck tha police.” Now the three best rappers in the world are an emo Canadian-Jew, a “fashion icon,” and a sports agent. So while I won’t be bumping Adequate Advocate on my iPod anytime soon, I respect his OG schtick. Cut a record while flash bangs are going off right in your fucking living room. That’s what Eazy-E would have done. Well, maybe he would have added some prostitutes and crack and an AIDS needle. But still, Gangsta shit.
PS – Far be it from me to tell the Fort Collins police how to do their job, but 15 marked cars and an armored SWAT vehicle seem like a slight waste of resources for a 19 year old who threatened his roommates.
