Bill Simmons Continues To Act Like A Little Bitch
Bostonherald - Once the “Big Show” got wind of his remarks, Ordway anointed Simmons the “fraud of the day.” Simmons fired back on Twitter, telling followers to create fake “Big Show” Twitter accounts. “Wait a second, why feud with big fishes in a small pond? Ordway could never work nationally. Small time. You’re right, bad career move by me,” Simmons tweeted. Simmons, a Hub native and former Herald editorial assistant, said Ordway’s producer later e-mailed him to come on the show to talk about things “diplomatically.” Simmons agreed, but says ESPN execs told him to hold off until things cooled down and he relayed this to Ordway’s producer. On Tuesday, Ordway told listeners Simmons wasn’t coming on and said he had sent the show an e-mail saying that his bosses didn’t want him to go on “anytime soon.” Simmons then called in to Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti’s show on “The Sports Hub” to dish about the “Big Show.” He also lashed out on Twitter. “Hey WEEI: You were wrong, I did a Boston interview today. With your competition,” Simmons wrote. “Rather give them ratings over deceitful scumbags like you.” Ordway took the high road. ‘Bill,” Ordway said last night, “lighten up.”
Are we still talking about this Bill Simmons Vs. Big Show feud? Really? We’re still talking about practice? Like didn’t this happen a week ago? Either way I just couldn’t resist chiming in on these last couple comment from Simmons because they just exemplify everythning I’ve always said about the guy. I mean you get mutilated on the radio by the Big Show and this is how you respond? By twittering this to your followers;

But that’s not the point. Who talks like this? Who acts like this? Pussies. That’s who. Again as I’ve said many, many, times the character of Bill Simmons is a great guy. Somebody we’d all want to be buddies with and that’s why so many people like him. But the real Bill Simmons, the one from Greenwich CT who went to Holy Cross is a fucking loser. I mean come on dude. You’re the anti establishment guy who made it. Stop acting like a little bitch and go on the Big Show and tear his ass up.

The Big O is just like Steve Sanders’ dad in this whole scenario and SG is Steve. Felger and Mazz are Colin (who died of a coke overdose) and Steve’s fat frat buddy who’s name I can’t remember. He was a fun dude though.
This type of confrontation is right in SG’s wheelhouse. Hopefully it doesn’t make him throw up in his mouth and he can write an article about it that is reminiscent of Pedro in ’99.

I actually disagree with him on his assessment of Ordway as well. I think he could easily be a national guy if he wanted to. He may be a blowhard but he is an excellent sport radio show host. I listen to a lot of Philly and NY sports talk radio because I’m down there a lot for work and as much as we bitch about our local sports radio here, I think it is still the best in the country.
Yeah that’s true. Though from the sound of it, and from the way these things occur in the past, ESPN wigs forbid this kind of stuff. Maybe BS is a bit neutered these days, but i’d like to think it’d be different if he and Corolla & friends had their own show/site. The biggest issue with Simmons is he talks out of both sides of his mouth.
He kept saying, “Why should I go on their show and give them ratings?”
Well dumbass, they are going to get ratings whether you call in or not because Bostonians for the most part, are morons that would listen regardless. Now that there is an alternative that you can actually hear, we’ll see how dominant Ordway truly is.
What this boils down to is you have no balls, Bill Simmons. Felger was saying it right to him. “We’re glad to have you, but I don’t know what you accomplished by refusing to go on their show and coming on our show to bash them when you could have done it live. I think you’re making it worse for yourself.”
Felger was pretty much ridiculing Simmons and Simmons had nothing to respond with. Basically, Felger was saying thats how things go in this town and take it for what its worth. Battle with them live and move on.
I think Simmons is an above average sports writer, but he is a wet dishcloth in person or on the radio. Boring, uncharismatic, and barely worth paying attention to. Its totally ironic that this guy cut his teeth 10 years ago calling people to task and now he’s such a pussy he’s got to hide behind his keyboard. I haven’t read Page 2 in about 4 or 5 years and I’m feeling pretty good about that decision now…

I’m pretty sure that the Big O is happy talking sports about the teams he likes day in and day out. Simmons made his bones as a Boston fan, but now is delegated to write 40,000 word fluff pieces about how his memories of the ’04 Sox are tainted because of Manny and how as a “realist”, he thinks Tom Brady could be washed up after 3 games of the season.

There is no way ESPN really forbid him to go on the show. It’s a cop out plain and simple. When he told me he didn’t want to do an interview with me five years ago he wrote

Simmons is not THAT funny. He is formulaic. I haven’t read Page2 in a few years now. I actually hardly read any internet sports now and that largely has to do with the Pats loss in ’07. For some reason that changed my life in ways that I can never explain.

Pres, Simmons moved to LA to write for Jimmy Kimmel Live, and after he ended his time working for them, he stayed. I love Boston, too, but I could definitely see the weather and lifestyle of LA being appealing.

Simmons not being allowed on the show is completely believable. Im originally from beantown but i’m living on L.I. now and NY radio host Mike Francesa recently ripped Simmons calling him a “stoog” for ESPN…If you know sports radio you have to admit Francesa although arrogant is the king…he challenged Simmons to come on his show which Simmons said he could not because of his contract with ESPN…Simmons said that Mike could come on his Podcast to which MIke responded…get an audience get a real show and then ill come on LOL…anyways point being Simmons runs his mouth…gets shit on…then twitters about it like he did with Francesa as well…either way he’s using ESPN and his contract to protect himself from getting ripped apart on these shows.

Anyways, the rule with these media feuds is that you only go after targets that are bigger than you. So I’m cool with Prez or WEEI ripping Simmons for being a hypocrite. But when Simmons — a No. 1 New York Times best-selling author — runs to his Twitter account to trash local media outlets, it just comes off as pathetic.

I think I outgrew the sports guy. I use to wait for his columns to come out and the longer they were, the better (unlike the retards here who refuse to read JT’s articles because they’re long and their brains cant handle reading anything longer than a caption). but i think he’s hell-bent on getting a national radio show now so all he does is these lame-ass podcasts with his buddies.

Agree with you completely, you can criticize anyone who’s been in the public for 10 years as repetitve, how can Simmons not be after 10 years. Like everything else a lot of Simmons’ charm has worn off, but at least he was once original, and he still is a decent read 50% of the time. Ordway on the other hand has never been, and never will be, talented, funny, or interesting. A lot like me now that I think about it, I should be more sympathetic.
you are right that the big show can be nauseating to listen to at times cuz they have 4 freaking hosts and no callers can get a word in before 2 of them start talking over them. however, that show has always been like that.
the problem people have with simmons is that he got famous being the renegade who you could picture yourself hanging out and talking sports with and seemed more down-to-earth than other sportswriters. now he acts as pompous and self-absorbed as all the other writers i cant stand. the old simmons would have laughed off the comments those fatasses made and moved on. now he’s obsessed with not only proving he’s a legitimate writer (sounds pretty self-conscious), but launching campaigns against his media enemies to drive their ratings down.
He reminds me of Buzz Bissinger going on national TV and talking about how blogs piss the shit out of him.

Badgermit and Unconquered, you are making great points that I mostly agree with (especially the part about being shouted down on the big show…no doubt that would happen), but EP is just being EP here. I mean, you can say you don’t care that he doesn’t back down and question his anti-Machiavellian tactics, but that is probably part of why you like him. Right?

With all of that said, I too go back to the digital city days, still read Simmons on occasion, actually thoroughly enjoy his podcasts on occasion, and generally find him to be pretty entertaining. Just thought I’d throw that out there.
Problem with BSG is that he’s done what 99% of Americans do when they see an opportunity. He sold out.
He decided doing what he did – being a Boston sports fan – was less important than opening up his fan base. So his articles became more general, and thus generic – so he can appeal to a larger set of customers. It’s not surprising that his original fan base is a bit put off by all of that. I certainly don’t read him anymore – and he was my daily shit-read back in the day….
