Breaking News: Tim Thomas Traded To The Islanders
(Source) - Arthur Staple reports that the Islanders have acquired Tim Thomas from the Bruins for a conditional second rounder in 2014 or 2015. Staple notes that the move is salary cap related as the Islanders needed to make sure that they are over the cap floor. The Bruins suspended Thomas because he did not want to play this season. Thomas, 38, is in the final year of his contract with a cap hit of $5 million.
Oh yeah! I remember that guy! From practically winning the Stanley Cup himself to being traded purely for salary cap reasons. Pretty significant downfall for old Tank. Can’t imagine that he predicted Boston would have forgot about him before he locked the door to his bunker. But after a 2-1 victory from Rask in a hostile Bell Centre, I don’t think anyone ever planned on missing the guy. But if the Islanders like stockpiling former Boston heroes in net then good for them.

@break70 – that would be incorrect. for one, js Giguere didn’t win the cup. for 2, you can’t compare a player’s performance against a goalie’s, it’s apples/oranges. back to js, I distinctly remember that run where they lost to nj in the finals but he was still mvp anyway and the crowd was booing like crazy (partly for bettman being on the ice/partly for a devil not getting the award) and, yes, he had an otherworldly run including the goal line skate save against modano, I believe, and modano saying post-game that js “was in a zone that is hard to understand right now” before the ducks beat the stars in 7. JS didn’t get it done, that’s the bottom line. TT did. You’re talking about a guy who let in 6 goals in 7 games against a high scoring Canucks team. You can argue that JS did not have the supporting cast that Thomas did, but greatness is measured with championships and the advantage goes to Thomas
