The Yanks payroll was about 200 million in ‘08. That’s really cost cutting Cartman! Why do Yankee fans get so defensive about their payroll? They try to act like it is not a severe advantage over every other team (yes even the Red Sox, so stop acting like it’s not). I’m not saying it’s not within the rules but hearing local guys like Tony Maz basically giving out blow jobs to Brian Cashman on the air is annoying. He’s been the worst GM in sports over the last 9 years.

Here’s the lesson, folks. In 2008, the Yankees took a new approach- cutting spending, and relying on their young pitchers instead of trading for Johan Santana. Result- didn’t make the playoffs. So they went out and got the two best free agents available-Sabathia and Texiera. In 2009, the Sox took a new approach-not overspending for free agents, and trying the “low risk, high reward” signings of Smoltz and Penny. Result-lost in the ALDS. This years crop of free agents is terrible too. So, what are the Sox gonna do to improve?

ya gotta love the NY media. As bad as the boston rags are, NY is worse. They slam a guy for making the last out of the ninth when their starting pitcher got shelled early and the offense nearly brought them back. Way to miss the forest for the trees, guys.

The only thing potentially good about a yankees win is the whole “well the Sox were the team with the highest payroll to win the championship”. Well – you got that title now NY. The best analogy I can come up with is a guy who spends $100 trying to win the teddy bear at the carnival and failing every time. finally, after 10 years, he goes to the carnival and just buys the teddy bear for $100 – and feels smug about his win. I mean – how can you feel superior when your #3,4 hitters and your #1,2 pitcher all signed gigantic ridiculous contracts in the last 2 years (to go with the embarrassing Jeter, Posada, Damon, etc contracts).

He’s 181 million richer whether the Yankees win it or not. As for the Sox, they need David Ortiz to be more Big Papi than Stan Papi next year.
