NESN - So, apparently, tonight is Boston Globe sportswriter Bob Ryan’s final Red Sox game as a member of the media. Locals know him as a longtime Celtics beat writer and one of the best journalists in the business. Others outside the market may known him from his appearances on ESPN’s Around the Horn, becoming one of the larger personalities on the show. Ryan is set to retire from the business at the conclusion of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. As the part of NESN that works on NESN.com is known as “New Media,” it does necessitate a bit of sadness to mention that Ryan’s reasoning for leaving the business is being uncomfortable with the new dynamics of the business and increased use of technology.
I like Bob Ryan. Always have. Always will. So it’s kind of sad to see he’s retiring because he we beat him into the submission. I mean saying he is uncomfortable with the new dynamics of the business and increased use of technology is basically code for saying I got clubbed to death by the Stool. Now I know how Larry Holmes felt when he fought Mohammad Ali. Oh well I guess it’s true what CT said on the Challenge Rivals…. “ANYONE STANDING IN THE WAY THEY’RE GETTING FLATTENED! CHOO-CHOO!”
