BOSTON - The Orange Line driver who stopped her train within inches of a woman on the tracks over the weekend will be honored today by the MBTA’s Board of Directors. It was a frightening scene for MBTA riders Friday night after a passenger waiting on the Orange Line platform at North Station fell onto the tracks. Dozens of people desperately tried to alert the driver of an oncoming train. That operator pulled on her emergency break at about 10 p.m. Friday, after police say a 27-year-old Cambridge woman had been drinking and appeared drunk before she fell onto the tracks. “She was under the train and how she did not get hit or hit the third rail is amazing,” Carroll said. The MBTA driver who narrowly avoided hitting the woman has been an operator with the MBTA for four years. “Mentally she is a little shaken up, but she’s okay,” said Suzie Gacia, the Orange Line superintendent.

Okay the MBTA can cut the shit here. I mean this has publicity stunt written all over it. After all it’s been a tough couple years for the transit system. They’re in debt like 9 bizillion dollars.  Chicks are getting groped all over the place.  And every other week  it seems like there is some transvestite driver smashing into people because they’re not paying attention.   So what better way to create some positive publicity than to have a drunk chick fall into the pit, flail around for 10 minutes before passing out right in the middle of the tracks and having the subway driver stop like an inch before her face?   Just a little too convenient if you know what I mean. Whatever though. I’ll play along and give the driver a slow clap anyway. Hey as long as they can sleep at night right?
