Boston.com - For the first time in the history of the 97-year-old ballpark, Fenway Park will open its gates to Boston children and families for free ice skating on two Sundays in January, Mayor Thomas M. Menino, the National Hockey League, the Boston Bruins, and Sun Life Financial Inc. said yesterday. City residents will be able to skate for free on a rink constructed on the baseball field on Jan. 3 and 10, as part of Boston’s New Year’s celebrations, Bruins legend Ray Bourque said at a press conference yesterday. The city of Boston, in partnership with Sun Life, will give out more than 3,000 tickets to the free skate on a first-come, first-serve basis on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at more than a dozen community centers throughout the city, including the Charlestown Community Center, Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, and Vine Street Community Center in Roxbury. Boston residents must bring proof of their residency. A maximum of four tickets will be distributed to each family.

I got a bad feeling about this one.   Like this reminds me of the first year the Pats made the playoffs with Parcells and the Patriots had no idea how to give away playoff tickets so everybody just showed up the night before and rioted and shit.    Yes I was part of that crowd.   That’s what I feel like is going to happen here.     Don’t get me wrong I think letting people skate for free at Fenway Park is a very cool concept.  But what I don’t think Mumbles gets is just how many people are probably going to want to do this.   Like giving away 3 thousand tickets is a drop in the bucket.  So there is just no way this goes smoothly.   We’ll be hearing horror stories for weeks to come after this event.  I mean it’s hard enough to keep the frog pond organized never mind Fenway Park.        So mark it down.   This will be a complete disaster.  That’s an El Pres mortal lock .
