What do you do when the country is in the midst of a raging steroid controversy? You do the only thing you can do. You turn to good old #5 to step up to the plate and deliver a dose of reality and clarity to the situation. And per usual Nomar didn’t disappoint. He is is 100% correct in his assertion that the steroid list a joke with the exception of Arod. And if you read in between the lines I think it’s pretty obvious what else Garciaparra is saying. Yeah he flunked the test back in 2003, but the only reason he did so was because he didn’t even take it so the number would be over 5% and MLB would mandate testing. A truer Patriot these eyes have never seen. God Bless Nomar. God Bless America.

Personally, I think the entire steroid and PED controversy has been completely blown out of proportion. We watch professional sports because we like to see humans being the best they possibly can, and if science has found ways to extend the limits of that performance, I’m all for it.
Who cares if we can’t compare stats from baseball in 1910 to stats from today? Players back then didn’t have the same strength training regimens, they didn’t have nutritionists, and they didn’t know cigarettes were killers. We already shouldn’t be comparing those records on an apples-to-apples basis, so let’s get off the anti-PED high horse and enjoy the game.
Maybe instead of all this testing, players should just have to disclose whether or not they’re using anything special. Imagine if major US pharma companies could start working towards creating mainstream performance enhancing substances instead of inventing treatments for afflictions nobody even knew existed until we started seeing commercials for them? (Restless Leg Syndrome – are you fucking shitting me?)

Slaphappy, the point is steroids can be dangerous and if you allow them in the game then you are pretty much forcing all players to use them to keep up. That’s not fair to guys who want don’t want to take PEDs.

i sadly must agree with “newyorksportsjerk,” nomar said that he, along with other players, refused to submit a sample so it would be listed as positive in an attempt to get the 5% required for MLB to implement regular steroid-testing. this is impossible because the MLB just responded to nomar’s statements saying that players were not allowed to do this, in order to test positive they were required to submit a urine sample. all nomar did for himself in this interview is condemn himself and poorly try to cover it up…
I don’t understand why people are so surprised about all this anymore. Honestly if people haven’t figured out by now that all the best players in the league were taking steroids at one time or another then they’re either ignorant, naive, or retarded. I don’t understand why this needs to be headline news on ESPN anymore with analysts talking about it for a week and Tim Kurkjian acting like he’s suprised EVERY SINGLE TIME. WAKE UP.
Wow, what a rambling mess of an interview, but what I get out of it is that ‘Nomie’ is doing some spin control before his name is revealed.
Sure buddy, you just refused the test because you were the hero who wanted testing in baseball. I believe that. It’s just a complete coincidence how your stats dropped considerably, and your body is breaking down in the exact manner someone who took a lot of roids would do.
For those still in denial about ‘Nomie’ and his roid usage. He claims it was a big thing, yet only *5%* of players had to test positive. 5 freakin percent. No person already making millions a year at his job is going to martyr himself for the greater good of the league, especially when it’s only 5% to trigger it.
Why?
1) If it’s under 5%, that’s not a lot of players and it’s not worth being a big deal for.
and
2) If there are as many players as he claims doing it, it should *easily* trigger the 5% rule even without those who claimed to reject the test to trigger the rule.
Nomar is bullshit. He was on roids, and if you believe otherwise, you’re a moron.
