Floyd Mayweather Won $90,000 on the Pats Sunday
Yardbarker - Tom Brady and the Patriots gave Floyd Mayweather 100,000 reasons to smile Sunday after beating the Titans 34-13. Mayweather bet $100,000 on the Pats, which he proved by tweeting out an Instagram picture of a betting slip. The bet was for New England to cover by -3 at the half with -110 odds. Mayweather reaped the benefits of a strong first-half defensive effort by the Patriots, including a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown by rookie linebacker Dont’a Hightower. With the Pats ahead 21-3 after two quarters, Mayweather took home $90,909.10 in winnings.
As I’ve made it clear here before, I don’t wager on games. Like every other red-blooded, God-fearin’ American man, I’ll do pools and Fantasy. But like Frank Drebin, I only gamble when I order takeout. That said, it does my heart good to read a story like this. To see a young man’s faith in the Patriots, in Brady, in Stevan Ridley and all the rookie weapons on defense get rewarded like this. It’s not an easy life, being a Pats fan in their decade of dominance. You get hated. Your team is reviled. Everyone is jealous of you. And on the rare occasions they get beat, the world makes salty Margaritas out of your tears and toasts to your misery. So anytime a guy with the purity of heart to lay down 100 grand on the Pats gets his payday, it’s a time to rejoice for all of us. Congratulations, Pretty Boy. Good for you, Money.
