Fuck Twinkies…If Wonderbread Goes Out Of Business I May Go On A Shooting Spree
NEW YORK (AP) — Hostess Brands Inc. said it likely won’t make an announcement until Friday morning on whether it will move to liquidate its business, after the company had set a Thursday deadline for striking employees to return to work. The maker of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Wonder Bread had warned employees that would file a motion in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to unwind its business and sell off assets if plant operations didn’t return to normal levels by 5 p.m. EST Thursday. That would result in the loss of about 18,000 jobs.
I haven’t really been paying too much attention to this whole Hostess controversy. Yeah I’d seen a bunch of tweets about how Twinkies may be going out of business and shit. I didn’t really care because I don’t eat twinkies anymore and frankly I haven’t seen anybody eat a twinkie since the Gilded Age. But guess what? Wonder Bread is my joint. Whole Wheat Wonder bread all day every day off camera every way. It’s the best bread out there and I’ve tried them all. An absolute sandwich difference maker. If I lose Wonderbread I lose my way of life. I know the Pepperidge Farm bread lunatics are going to come out of the woodwork now. Listen they got great cookies but their bread is too stiff. Wonderbread has a softness that frankly I don’t know if I can live without and that’s me trying to be reasonable. So somebody tell me what I need to do to resolve this dispute and I will use the full power of my mogul office to do it.

This is far from a “union success story.” Those union workers took a sizeable pay cut once before, they haven’t received raises of any kind in over 5 years, the pension plans that they contributed to were stolen from them and on top of all that, several high level executives have received raises upwards of 300%…..but yeah, it’s probably the lazy union workers who put this company under!!!! @pacostacos, the fact is that a huge part of the debt that Hostess owed was to ‘legacy pension plans’. Pension plans are going the way of the dodo bird. they are unsustainable. thats one of the biggest prizes that unions cling to. guess what, they don’t work. google the Post Office news from last night and tell me how that’s working out. and no, its not because of email. somehow UPS and FedEX have figured it out. companies have figured it out and that’s why non public union membership is plummeting. and i didnt say anything about people being lazy. work on your reading comprehension, and maybe you’ll move up at the Local 329.

Anyone here know the difference in salary btw union or non-union airplane pilots? Or non-union concrete workers in earthquake zones? Meat processing plants? Nope. Why this doesn’t extend to Verizon workers who rebuilt the NYSE fiber op after 9/11, cops/firemen/nurses who save lives, or even the office cleaners and school custodians who maintain our buildings is a mystery. So if you think someone making just the median wage [$40k] should be happy with getting benefits cut even though Hostess is a BILLION dollar company–you really have never understood macroeconomics of western countries. There’s no value in a race to the bottom for the middle class here. Don’t you understand the 1% has seen income increase 250% while the middle class is stagnant?
If you subscribe to supply side economics and think workers should just be “happy” to have a job, you also don’t understand how communities give opportunities for the “American Dream”. It’s almost all public spending: schools, cops, firemen, roads, etc.
