Source – Google has made it harder to find porn on the internet – to the outrage of many users. The world’s number one search engine tweaked an algorithm for their image search database in the U.S. making it harder to find sexually-explicit images. Immediately taking notice of the change on Wednesday, users launched a firestorm in online complaints stirring an explanation by Google that included a defense against allegations of censorship. We use algorithms to select the most relevant results for a given query. If you’re looking for adult content, you can find it without having to change the default setting — you just may need to be more explicit in your query if your search terms are potentially ambiguous. The image search settings now work the same way as in Web search,’ it continued. Today flipping on the SafeSearch filter will entirely wipe clean any results for search words like ‘porn’ or ‘boobs.’ But turning it off, users may find they have to be just a bit more specific to find more graphic content, if that’s what they’re looking for.

 

Usually I’m an advocate for the least amount of censorship possible in just about any situation, but I could not be happier that Google cleaned up all the porn in their image search. You guys ever tried searching for a picture when SafeSearch is off? Everything’s porn. Everything! The other day I searched for “step brother” because I wanted to put a picture of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in a blog. I miss one little “s” and I’m bombarded with step-sibling porn. I don’t need that. I actually can’t see any good use for Google image porn. What are people doing with that shit? Nobody’s jerking off to it right? That would be insane. The biggest market has to be really young kids who haven’t figured out where all the free porn videos are on the internet yet. Or really old people who haven’t figured out where all the free porn videos are on the internet. Whatever the case, I for one am happy that I can finally search for “bears” and get a picture of the animal, not a muscular hairy gay guy.

PS – The people who actually got outraged when they couldn’t find thumbnail images of shitty porn are the last people on earth I’d ever want to meet. Those are the serial killers and gerbil mutilators of the world.
