And Poof Just Like That Youk Was Gone
And poof just like that he was gone….. Seriously I think Youk just got traded while running the bases here. I’m kind of surprised he didn’t punch Bobby V on the way out to his curtain call here.
PS – How awkward would this be if he somehow doesn’t get traded within the next 10 minutes? “Like oh hi Youk…umm so you’re still here huh?”
UPDATE – And it’s official. Youk traded to the White Sox for a bag of balls and some guy named Zach Stewart. A quicker fall from grace these eyes have never seen.

I’m starting to think Bobby V is literally crazy. He seems like he might just snap at any moment or have a nervous breakdown or something.
Youk was a great red sock he busted his ass every single day and you cant ask for more out of a player. I’m a firm believer he wasn’t part of the problem w this team and was probably the guy who said shit about Beckett and co. drinking and eating. All he wanted to do was win
There is a 0% chance he does not get traded
According to Mike Gambardella hes been traded to the white sox.
best celebration for a triple ever
Wherever he goes, he’ll still have his looks.
How soon do the Pink Hatters turn on Youk and claim he is/always has been an asshole and they never liked him to begin with? Monday morning?
White sox for zack Stewart rhp
Nice to see Youk dissing Ortiz !
And Brent Lillibridge. Yawn.
A say fucking day that we only have one dirt dog left, Pedroia. Love you Youk, you deserve better than these fucking clowns who only give a shit about themselves and not the team. I’m gonna miss ya
Zack Stewart rocking a career 5.92 ERA and 1.57 WHIP. Sweet pickup
I don’t care what anybody says, the Red Sox got worse today.
Why couldn’t Middlebrooks play right field again?
fuck off Theo fuck off Francona fuck off Youk fuck off Papelbon…yeah because those four were the problem
What was up with that pitch during the ovation? It might have gone over the net
youk always seemed like a prick but I absolutely love him on the field. hes been declining and injury prone for a couple seasons but he’s an absolute dirt dog. he’ll be missed.
cansatc21, you really can’t just stick a guy whose been a corner infielder all his life in the outfield and expect good things at the pro level. You been watching Adrian out there the past month? My point exactly. The roster has to turn over eventually and Youlk certainly wasn’t coming back next year so why not give big Willy the job now.
I understand trading Youk, but this is all they could get for the guy? A career .215 hitter and a RHP who rolls with an ERA of 6 every year? And they had to pay $5.5 million? I’m lost.
@canesatc: You do realize Youk clearly wanted to go right. He didn’t get along with the manager or the team and was blocking our best hitter, Middlebrooks from playing. This also allows Gonzo to play everyday at first where he’s clearly more comfortable and even lets Ross and Nava who have been on fire to play every day. Ya Stewart and Lillibridge are probably going to start but Stewart was a former top prospect so it’s not inconceivable to think he could turn it around. The trade was more about addition by subtraction.
Stewart and lillibridge are probably going to suck**
Youk is aging ridiculously fast. All those years of busting his ass and playing through injuries has led to him becoming injury prone, and a hitter that looks lost at the plate just above the age of 30. Youk was one of the best players we’ve ever had, but this trade is definitely more to help out the team skill wise than disruption-wise. Middlebrooks is an everyday 3B, Ortiz is an All Star again at DH, and Gonzo hasn’t been the same hitter since he’s been playing the OF. We couldn’t get more from him because teams out there aren’t interested in giving up anything for him. The past 2 years he’s been an aging backup player not the All Star he used to be. But any real Red Sox fan should continue to love what Youk has done. One of the hardest workers this team has ever had, and unfortunately that probably lead to his quick demise.
Always liked Youk, sad to see him go. He always played his ass off.
Was a great player for the Sox, and a big part of two championships, but it was time to let him go. Just wish we could have gotten more for him
What the fuck? You is batting .225 and has gotten worse every year since 2008, numbers dont lie. Did you think we were going to get Chicago’s top prospect? Be thankfull Middlebrooks is going to play full time now, kid is mashing out there.
Youk**
i think nava’s probably considered the best hitter on the team right now next to ortiz and then maybe middlebrooks. the thing about youk is, last year average wise was his worst ever, but he still got on base. his on base percentage from last year, his “washed up year”, would put him 3rd on the team this year compared to the everyday starters. he’s worth a lot more than what we got for him and i think that’s gotta be a slap in the face to him. everyone says he’s an asshole but hes a very likable player
@likebutter…you kind of proved my point…if they were willin to move a gold glover (Gonzo) they should have been willing to do the same with a rookie. I like Middlebrooks bat but his fielding reminds me of a primadonna, he takes way to long to get rid of the ball and doesn’t field bunts well. Long term this was the best move probably…but I think I they were more willing to move Middlebrooks the lineup and team would be stronger this year and possibly next, let’s face it, the Red Sox got the short end of the stick in this trade.
watch Middlebrooks get a season ending injury…… should of kept Beltre!
@richgarces I knew Youk didn’t care if he was traded after he gave an interview last year pretty much saying that he will live even if he’s not always a Red Sox. I don’t think Youk likes Bobby V, but hey, neither do I and from reports, neither do a lot of the other players. Youk is a hard nosed guy, intense, and I’m sure he’s a difficult teammate at times, but the fact that you’d put stock in lillebridge “turning it around” vs Youk turning it around is ridiculous to me.
Ryan Braun = former 3B, never played outfield prior, Alex Gordon = former 3B, never played outfield….it can be done, these are supposed to be good athletes.
Yea, a gold glove first baseman struggles in right. How do you think a rookie third baseman would look out there? They weren’t “willing” to do anything, they had to put the Adrian in right to get Youlk at bats while keeping the kid’s hot bat in the lineup. If anything Bobby probably wanted to just sit Youlk and go with the hot hand but that clearly wasn’t happening. Like someone said earlier this was addition by subtraction.
sorry, it could’ve been done…oh well, at least the Red Sox are winning, I really don’t care who plays as long as that keeps happening!
@likebutter – we’ll never know…but because a gold glove 1b struggled, doesn’t mean a younger, faster 3b would’ve had the same struggles.
Of course the Red Sox got the short end of the stick in this deal, did anybody expect they were going to get anything of value back for him? Think a little. Youk had no place on this team anymore and it’s time to get Middlebrooks in there full time, waiting until July 31 made no sense.
diehard white sox fan here… obviously love the trade from our end cuz our 3b’s are hitting like a combined 160 but a little something on lillibridge and stewart. lillibridge is a real good utility guy, his numbers arent reflective of how he hits, but he plays a fucking GREAT outfield… zack stewart absolutely sucks, throw him off a bridge
love youk, dislike the trade especially because they are still paying some of his salary. I would have been okay with a youk/vance worley trade with the same cash considerations, but this just seems like the sox got screwed. not a huge fan of bobby v at the moment.
also.. the fact that barstool still has not figured out the timestamp issues on these posts boggles my mind. i literally just posted at 11:33 east coast time
Middlebrooks has 40 games under his belt. Wait till they need help at a corner IF position due to injury and people will wish this trade never happened.
Bobby V eats at my cousins restaurant all the time. Last night bobby V said: Italians 1 – Jews 0, and that’s a wrap and I should now because I invented it!
