Everyone in the country is raving about how awesome this series is… but I’m buying Pepcid by the palette.

I had a huge Ray Allen thing all mapped out that I had to scrap because the Celtics, when it counted, slowed the game to a crawl and didn’t start their offense until there were 8 seconds left on the clock. A lot of people are going to look a lot of places for some blame, but you can put the blame squarely on the guys on the floor. They went on a 23-3 run to build a big lead of their own at the end of the 4th quarter. But instead of putting a foot on the Bulls’ collective throats, they got away from what GOT them that 23-3 run, and pissed the lead away. It’s the cliche “you play to win… you don’t play not to lose.”

Rajon Rondo was alternately awesome and frustrating. He had 19 assists, but he wasn’t the same Rondo we’d seen in games 1 through 5. Could have used more slice-and-dice Rondo. He pulled a 4-17 shooting night out of his pocket at a bad time. He didn’t seem aggressive for most of the game (except for the whole melee with Kirk Hinrich) and that really cost the team.

Paul Pierce seems to be in a fog this series. He’s still scoring here and there, but he’s just out of gas.

Where the fuck is the Celtics bench?

You can say that two inches cost the Celtics this game (insert “you must be used to two inches costing you” joke here). Ray Allen had a toenail on the line in the double-OT that meant he hit a big 2 instead of a 3. And in the 3rd OT, Eddie House hit his one shot with his foot a couple of inches over the line… again making it a very long 2. A little more court awareness could have changed this game.

Most of America is thrilled that this series is going 7. All the talk on sports radio will be how awesome this series is (unless you listen to WEEI in the morning, then you’ll hear right-wing ranting and the Celtics score. When did their morning show switch to a news format?). I’m pissed that (a) I’ve got to cancel Saturday night plans to watch a game 7 and (b) The Celtics wasted another epic game from Ray Allen. 51 points in 59 minutes on 18 of 32 shooting. He shot 50% from 3. He was clutch. The team got away from him for too long at the end. They team got away from a lot of things at the end… and that’s why we’re going to a game 7.
