Dodgers Claim Gonzo. Deal To Send Gonzo, Crawford And Beckett To The Dodgers In The Works
CBS — The Los Angeles Dodgers have been awarded the waiver claim on Boston Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Bill Shaikin of The Los Angeles Times reported Friday. The report has been confirmed by CBSSports.com insider Jon Heyman. The Dodgers’ claim of Gonzalez would be the first step in a potential trade sending the star first baseman to Los Angeles. The Times mentioned a potential deal that would also involve Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford heading to Los Angeles for multiple top prospects. Even with the first step completed, the deal is far from complete. The Dodgers would be taking on $253 million in salary, an absurd sum even considering the clear willingness of new ownership to spend, all while giving up loads of future value. The Red Sox have the rights, if a trade is not completed within the next 48-72 hours, to either pull Gonzalez back or allow him (and his contract) to go to the Dodgers.
First of all, let’s just accept the fact that this deal would be way too good to be true. There’s literally zero percent chance the Dodgers pick up a $253 million dollar tab that only has one guy who can play on it. Magic Johnson is plenty stupid, but he ain’t that stupid. Now having said that, I think just Adrian Gonzalez has a chance to get done. And I’m not sure I’m crazy about that. Gonzo isn’t sexy. He’s JD Drew 2.0 with Wario’s eyebrows. He’s whiny and bitchy and gossipy and an excuse machine. But at the end of the season, you know what he’s gonna give you. He’s gonna be above .300 with over 100 RBIs and about 20 home runs. Not numbers everyone can put up. I hate this team as much as the next guy. I can’t count how many times I’ve said “blow it up” in the last few months. But that’s obviously not something you can do easily and there are plenty of guys who deserve a one way ticket before Gonzo does. I don’t think the Sox can with with Gonzalez as the guy on the team, he doesn’t have the heart. But I think they’d have a hard time winning without him as a guy. Surround him with character guys and he’ll be fine.
And yes I know they’re not winning with him as a guy right now. But Gonzalez isn’t in my top 10 of guys I blame.

Hahahaha seriously, not possible.
OMFG, MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!!!!111!!
If this deal happens, the whole deal, then we know the devil owns the souls of the rest of Red Sox management. He already owns a few of them.
You bitch about Gonzo all year and then say the shouldn’t get rid of him. Maybe it’s in God’s plans.

Just get rid of Gonzalez, I don’t care what they get back, addition by subtraction. The whole “God’s plan” bullshit, ADDED to the fact that he’s had a shit 2 years (yeah big deal he’s putting up numbers when we’re 13 and a half games out, where was he 3 months ago?), I never want to see that cunt in a Red Sox uniform again. Words can’t describe how much I hate him.
then we lose Ells to free agency, and have nobody to play center
Im born, raised, live in LA…obviously a Dodger fan. Although I am ecstatic that McCourt no longer owns the Dodgers, and that the new owners want to win, and win now, this deal would be absolutely fucking stupid. I like Gonzo as a player and maybe a change of scenery would be good for him, ala Hanley Ramirez, but taking on 253 large for basically one player while mortgaging your franchise is plain idiotic.
No one could possibly be that stupid to take all three. If that happened it would go down as greatest ream job in history. Gonzo has peaked, will never be as good again and is a bad fit for Boston. Dump him.
Is this real life? Crawford is still owed a billion dollars and just had Tommy John surgery. no one is trading for him.
hortonhearsawoo you’re nuts. I hate Gonzo but he had a monster year last year. Guy hit .340 with 120 RBIs and 110 runs scored.
Wander if John Lackey was put on waivers whether a WNBA team would even claim him.
Hey let’s throw in Lackey while we’re talking crazy talk
Beckett will go back to killing it facing NL batting. Crawford will get healthy and Gonzo isn’t exactly to blame for the Sox blowing (look at starting pitching and a closer with a near 5.00 ERA). Mix in some pretty serious injuries and terrible chemistry and there you have it.
“Wario eyebrows” = best line I’ve read on Stool in a long time.
not to beat a dead horse but someone should really tell the people at hit and run that their ad is a bit much
Hey Biden I don’t care if they send them to the Los Angele Kings, hell, take them to Los Angeles and leave them at a burrito stand, just get rid of them, they’ve destroyed Red Sox Nation.
George Carlin would have loved the God’s plan comment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9Os-r-f3pE
Yukon – I’d love to see them all gone, just can’t believe it would happen. Maybe if Magic Johnson is the final decision maker.
you can trade a guy who’s arm was literally cut open on a surgical table like 36 hours ago? PS – fucking great, local sports radio can KEEP fucking talking non-stop about this team nobody gives a shit about. what do we got? 2 weeks till the NFL kicks off? i need a FF button
Straight jizz in my pants if this deal happens. I put the likelihood at about 2 percent though.
They’ll never take all three. Gonzo and Beckett for prospects. Still love gonzo though. He’s by far the least of the problem. Guys saying he’s peaked and he sucks are pink hat fans. His numbers are consistently solid on offense and defense
Can you say “guy” one more time please..just one more time..Totally agree though, he’s not exactly the person you want to get rid of..Lackey, Beckett, Bobby V, first.
WOW
I heard Cherington is doing the talking. If that’s so, Lucchino has his hand up Ben’s ass up to his shoulder.
feitelberg, literally this entire article was word for word what felger and mazz said today. hmmm
