ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Cheerleaders donned black leggings and white T-shirts for a World Championship basketball match between Iran and the United States in Istanbul on Wednesday to respect cultural sensitivities. Some Iranian officials still left the arena shortly before their routine began, however. At previous matches officials had stood up and turned their backs. Cheerleaders were missing altogether from Turkey’s last two matches in Ankara, raising eyebrows in the overwhelmingly Muslim but officially secular nation, particularly as scantily-clad cheerleaders had been present at other matches. Patrick Baumann, secretary-general of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), said “special arrangements” had been made with the dancers’ dress on Wednesday. “We want entertainment to be part of the basketball game. If it needs a little bit of adjustment that is fine with us,” he told a news conference. “It is a balance between respecting the culture and making sure basketball delivers all the pace, excitement and entertainment that goes with the World Championship.”

That’s it.  I was never really on board with this whole multiculturalism, celebrating diversity nonsense and now I am officially checked out.  I’m not a hater or a racist, but we’re supposed to respect other people’s cultures but they won’t respect ours?  Look, the rest of the world took our manufacturing, they’ve taken the lead in high tech, I can’t call customer support without getting a guy in Sri Lanka who’s smarter and speaks better English than me, and they’re even beating us in baseball.  The US is now down to three things we do better than the rest of the world: Basketball, individually wrapped cheese slices, and producing hot, slutty cheerleaders.  And that’s it.  Why can’t the Iranians appreciate the deeply felt cultural bond between America and the scantily clad tramps who entertain us?  Cheerleaders are one of our most sacred institutions and I’m deeply offended Iran is being so insensitive towards us.  Like Maximus says in Gladiator: “I’ve seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark.  Cheerleaders are the light.”  So true. Kiss my ass, rest of the world.
