Is Clay Our Best Pitcher?

Â
Chew on these stats for a second.
- In his last 5 starts he’s given up 6 earned runs combined. Â
- He’s only given up 17 runs total in his last 9 starts.  Â
- Throw out his 7 run clunker against the White Sox and that’s 10 combined runs in 8 out of his last nine starts.  Â
- The Sox are 7-0 in his last 7 starts.  Â
Yeah I know Beckett and Lester pay the bills but numbers are numbers.   The guy has been flat out unhittable for 2 months now.
Best one, two, three punch in baseball. Yes, Giants have Lincecum and Cain but that’s where it ends in terms of dominance plus they won’t make the playoffs. Cards have Wainwright and Carpenter but no dominant #3. Phils can say the same about Hamels and Lee. Yanks have CC who sucks in October…Dodgers are shit. Angels have Lackey, Kazmir but the Sox absolutely own the Angels, especially in October. Sox chances are pretty good.
Not to mention the bullpen is the best in baseball. Bard, Wagner, Paps. As long as they don’t run MDC out there or put Varitek in the starting lineup it will hopefully be a good post season.
I think Clay got a little pissed down in Pawtucket watching Smoltz getting lit up and not getting the call. Great motivation to pitch like Cy Young so you dont have to head back to the Bucket.
Last 5 starts? You forgot to mention Smoltz….ohhh ya oppps, sorry.
A yes John Smoltz. The guy who wasn’t good enough to play for the Red Sox and was cut. I’m sure the Red Sox would be pissing their pants if they had to face him in the World Series. Don’t people realize that Smoltz was signed to plug the gap while Buchholtz became ready for the Show?
Hey TonyTwotoes, a $5.5 million contract to plug a gap? You must work for the BigDig
unfortunately clay is your best pitcher, and he pitches great to the o’s, jays, and kc. (the one kluncker that you mentioned was to the CWS when they were still in contention)
Buchholz vs. Better Teams
Aug. 8 vs. Yanks: 6 IPs/2 ERs
Aug. 13 vs. Tigers: 7 IPs/1 ER
Sept. 3 vs. Tampa: 6 IPs/3 ERs
Sept. 13 vs. Tampa: 7 IPs/1 ER
He has a 1.32 ERA in his last 6 starts
