The HeraldJets cornerback Darrelle Revis says he means no disrespect. He called Randy Moss a “great receiver.” But on a conference call a few minutes ago, Revis reiterated his view: He “shut out” Moss man-to-man, without safety help. Moss has disagreed. “Everybody saw the game, everybody knew I was in man coverage,” Revis said, getting slightly agitated… “If Randy beat me on a touchdown, I’ll say, ‘Yeah, he beat me,‘ ” Revis said. “He’s a great receiver. I believe I’m a great corner, too. You gotta give respect to the guys you’re going against. I’m not trying to get into a jawing match or trash-talking match with Randy Moss… If that’s what Randy thinks of me, that’s what he thinks. He knows I’ll be covering him. I know that. (Tom) Brady knows that. The Patriots know that. The Jets know that. Everybody knows that. Everybody knows that’s going to be the matchup this week.”

…AndYou can accuse Rex Ryan of a lot of things. But trying to be someone else is not one of them… “One thing I will say is that I’m gonna be true to myself, and I said that from day one. If I don’t fit the stereotype of coach-speak or any of that, so be it. I’m always gonna be myself… To become a champion, you have to believe in yourself when no one else will. That’s a message that I believe in, I’m always gonna be that person. I think our team understands that.” …This is who I am, you can go back and ask anybody who I coached in Baltimore, whoever. I’m gonna be myself. I’m man enough to be me. Again, it’s more passion than it is anything else. I have a strong belief in myself and this football team.

So there you have it.  50 years of New York Jets futility explained.  How does a franchise go a half a century and have only one successful season?  With one, single, solitary letter: “I.”  Who does Darrelle Revis give credit to for the Jets win over the Pats in Week 2?  To Darrelle Revis.  He stopped Randy Moss.  Not the Jets defense, not the schemes they employed, not their offense or special teams for doing their part.  Not even the safety help which he most definitely had while the Jets played Man Under Cover-2 for most of the game.  I was in man coverage, I’m a great corner, I’ll be covering him. I, I, I.  The blithering idiot Rex Ryan used the first person singular pronoun 13 times and “myself” four times in that short quote alone.  For all the angry vitriol being fired at Bill Belichick this week over 4th Downgate for his supposed arrogance, hubris and smarter-than-everybody-elseishness, has he ever in his life uttered a statement like that?  Can you in your wildest dreams imagine a Patriots player putting himself ahead of the team, thumping his chest with one hand and giving himself  a handjob with the other the way the insufferable Revis is here?  There might not be an “I” in the word “TEAM” or the word “JETS,” but there is one in “FAILURE.”
