Globe’s Extra Points blogMiami OLB Joey Porter said last Sunday that his hate for the Jets brought out his best football. “My feelings toward New England go back further,” Porter said. “It goes back to my Pittsburgh days. I felt a certain way, after some things came out, way back when I was in Pittsburgh, some AFC championships I lost to them, couple times. Come to figure out a few months later why we lost. So yeah, I have a natural hate for them. Period. And that’s just gonna be with me forever… I know they don’t like me… Let’s be honest — they don’t like me, and that’s fair. I don’t like them, and that’s fair. It’s not like there’s a divorce happening. We never really were married anyway. The division goes to the last champion, period,” Porter said. “The last champion was the Miami Dolphins. We have the championship until we lose it. It’s ours to lose. You can’t just crown the champion because they used to be the champions back in the day. That hardly makes any sense. It’s what you did the last year. You’re never judged off of what you did a couple years ago, it’s what you’re doing now. Last year, we were the champs. It comes through Miami, they’re the defending champs, you gotta go take the championship from them. That’s just the way it works.”

Listen, I totally get the part where Joey Porter says he hates the Patriots.  It goes without saying that the nail has no love for the hammer.  I mean, how much can you like someone who’s beaten on you time and time again?  Porter’s feelings toward the Pats are pretty much what George McFly’s were toward Biff Tannen or Ralphie Parker’s were toward Scut Farkas.  But he’s deluding himself if he thinks the feelings are mutual.  I’d be surprised if anyone in the Pats organization even remembers Porter was even on those Pittsburgh teams the Pats beat on the road in the AFCCGs.  Of course everyone remembers Troy Brown’s lateral for a TD off a blocked FG in 2002.  And Eugene Wilson picking off Roethlisberger twice in 2005.  But Porter?  I bet every member of the Pats organization would have to check the box score to make sure he was even on the Steelers roster back then.  But good for him.  He’s proud of the Dolphins epic, unforgettable AFC East championship last year.  The one where they won the same number of games as the Pats who had a high school quarterback.  And I’m sure he still gets the tingles remembering the way they lost like “champs” to Baltimore 27-9 in the playoffs.  And it’s good that he’s woofing now with his team 3-4.  Because if Joey Porter wasn’t being a microphone grabbing attention whore, how would anyone remember he’s there?
