Lebron Wants Everybody To Know He Doesn’t Care That He Doesn’t Get Credit For Being Underpaid
INDIANAPOLIS – LeBron James doesn’t think it’s possible to be paid his actual value under the current NBA rules. Because of it he said he’s been willing to sacrifice on his contracts. “What I do on the floor shows my value. At the end of the day, I don’t think my value on the floor can really be compensated for anyways because of the (collective bargaining agreement),” James said Friday head of the Miami Heat’s game with the Indiana Pacers “If you want the truth. If this was baseball, it’d be up, I mean way up there.” “I have not had a full max deal yet in my career — that’s a story untold,” James said. “I don’t get (the credit) for it. That doesn’t matter to me, playing the game is what matters to me. Forbes recently estimated James earns $40 million per year in endorsements and sponsorships, thanks to deals with Nike, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, State Farm and Samsung.
This article is so Lebron. I’ll grant him that everything he said actually kind of makes sense. But it’s the fact he had to say it. Like he had to be like nobody ever talks about the fact that I haven’t had a max deal yet and I get no credit for it. Everything he said was right and his quote was in response to being asked what he thinks will happen in a year or two when he bosh and wade all have the choice to opt out. Either get a maxed out contract and be one of the only stars on the team and not get a ring, or take less money so your team (Heat) can afford players that don’t fold in crunch time (Wade, Bosh). You can say whatever negative you want about LeBron after he said his pay can’t equal his value. But just know it’s entirely true. NBA max is $20 million per year for five yrs. If NBA had MLB pay structure LeBron could get $35-40 million per season for 10-12 yrs. Easily.
