Boston.com - Mayor Thomas M. Menino underwent emergency surgery this morning to repair a torn tendon in his left knee, an injury he suffered when he fell at his son’s house Sunday evening, his spokeswoman said today. Menino, 66, was taken by ambulance last night to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, according to a person briefed on the matter. He “missed a step” while walking into the house with his grandchildren, according to Menino’s spokeswoman, Dot Joyce. Menino canceled a planned post-election vacation to Bermuda because of the fall. In October 2008, Menino had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to repair cartilage torn when he slipped during a Red Sox championship rally the previous fall. The mayor hyperextended his right knee hoisting the World Series trophy at Fenway Park before the team’s victory parade.

Menino had to cancel his trip to Bermuda? Oh that sucks.   Does that mean he’ll actually have to stick around now and do the job he just got elected to do?  Poor guy. Actually you know what? I’m done bashing the Mayor. Because love him or hate him you got to admit that it takes a special type of cat to become the longest termed mayor in the history of Boston when all you do is fall down and go on vacations. I mean he literally can’t open his mouth, walk down a street or ride a bike without making a fool of himself, but nobody can stop him. Like if this was a movie nobody would believe that this bumbling idiot could still be in office, but here we are. So at some point you just got to tip your cap and move on. Menino is like a comfortable 0-4. He doesn’t throw hard. You feel good in the box but he just goes and gets guys out and you don’t know how.
