Not A Dry Eye In the House

It will be a day they talk about for years to come at Fenway. The day Nomar came back to Boston and was treated as a Golden God.  Sorry Larry Lucchino, but even you couldn’t tarnish his reputation forever. Eventually people figure out the truth.

If you listened to Nomar talk even a little bit yesterday you got to see one of the reasons I loved this guy in the first place. He is one of the few players who seemed to totally appreciate everything about Boston. Did he hate management? Yes because they treated him like shit. But he never wavered in his love of the fans and it was obvious he really did care what everybody thought of him unlike the Mannys, Johnny Damons, Roger Clemens of the world who could give a shit less no matter what they say. Nomar was honestly nervous how we felt because he loved it here so much and played so hard for us. That’s why I don’t get people who bash him or don’t give him the respect he’s earned. He played the game at 110%  at all times. He never talked about his contract. He never bitched to the media.  He was truly a throwback and treated us to arguably the best 7 year stretch we’ve ever seen. It was a privilege to watch him and after last night I finally feel like he and I can both be at peace with his legacy.

Sounds like he wouldn’t mind coming back here to finish up too based on what he said in his pre-game press conference. He wouldn’t be bad coming off the bench..

I good not a gree more. It is amazing how the media in this town thinks that their opinion or thoughts should be shared by all. Listening to Felger and Dickerson this morning made me puke in my mouth. Thanks Nomar or as Ted Williams ( another Boston Pariah according to the press) The greatest right handed hitter the Red Sox have ever had.

I don’t like athletes because they are good guys, the like the fans, they hustle or any of that bullshit …

Give me a guy that performs and is an asshole over a guy that hustles, is friendly and does not perform any day of the week…

Portnoy … you are a PUSSY ASS PINK HAT LOSER and your golf game sucks.

Manny is the greatest red sock of all time. Nomar isn’t in the top 10.

After/If everyone is done with the maa Nomar articles and semi-homosexual writings, check out boozeworthy.com First two posts today are about Ukraine banning porn and how Japanese women crave more sex.

El Pres – you are simply a moron. Nomar never bitched? What’s with this man-crush you’ve got going on? You must have something for steroid users. Isn’t it amazing how once testing began Nomar’s career went into the tank?

» Casey Tatum said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 10:07:33 }

how shocking that a group that gave manny ramirez standing ovations every night even as he spit in their face and insulted their intelligence in every way gave nomar a standing ovation. looking forward to months more of posts on this “historic” event, will there be any clever t-shirts as a result of this?

I had 2 birdies golfing last Friday.

» Nino24 said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 10:07:17 }

Pres I know you are just pushing buttons at this point, but c’mon.

Nomar completely deserved the standing ovation and I am glad he got it. The one thing that bothered me though, Nomar all cheery hugging his team mates after the win, he NEVER did that with the Sox. I never suspected Nomar would be such a fake like that.

Does this writer have an ax to grind with Nomar too? Is the whole world against Nomar? So he’s smart enough to put on a smile for the cameras, great. He’s still a clam.

» Pattyb said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 10:07:40 }

Pickett … i gave you a homework assignment 2 posts back … get to work.

Didnt the stool blog about how stupid Johnny Damon sounded for saying it’s great the Yankees respect what their players have done in the past and reward them with nice contracts? I believe everyone hear bashed the shit out of him because the sox aren’t stupid enough to pay a load of money to washed up players.
So management was the evil one here? Look at Nomars numbers during what would have been that 60mm deal. Not even worth half that and he wanted a lot more. And yeah, his numbers might have sucked because of injuries but that’s the point. That’s why they didn’t want a big committment to a fragile ss with diminishing range.

‘arguably the best 7 year stretch we’ve ever seen’

I’d take the last seven years with the two world series titles over the previous seven of us continually falling short like the 80 years or so before that… but hey, that’s just me.

The greatest Red Sock of all time was on Curt Schilling’s foot, ba dum ching.

» nuge said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 10:07:29 }

with that said……move the fuck on….hes was the best player when i was in my younger years and i loved watchin him compete. he got what he deserved last night and i was happy to see but all this nomar talk is gettin ridiculous wait to slob on his nuts till he “ends his career here” or did i misunderstand that whole interview?

» Vanilla Ice said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 10:07:33 }

Portnoy – Take Nomah’s balls out of your mouth, enough all ready. You liked him, a vast majority of the rest liked him, but it’s time to move on.

» Agent47 said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 11:07:48 }

what is with all the anger because Nomar got a standing O?? He’s the best shortstop your team has seen in decades. It’s refreshing to see fans do that for a change besides booing a former player, especially one that was liked as much as he was.

» bones said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 11:07:42 }

fuck Nomar

» Quann said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 11:07:12 }

He’s the BEST shortstop this team has ever seen. All of these retards that hate Nomar aren’t true Sox fans.

» JoeyGuins said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 12:07:53 }

What about Orlando Cabrera!!! The SS that actually helped us win the WS by playing good baseball
I agree, Nomar got what he deserved last night, but enough is enough.

Dave, did you lose your virginity during a Nomar at bat or something?
(if you did, that’s cool, I understand your undieing love for him)

» OIFSeabee06 said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 12:07:29 }

The pitcher shoudl have plunked him on the first pitch

» Smitty12 said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 12:07:46 }

Have to go with Van Nostrand on the “Best 7 years” comment, although perhaps you mean the best 7 individual years of a player here (possibly Ted Williams?). Nomar was an unbelievable talent for a very short period of time until injuries cut short what looked like a Hall of Fame career–like Tony C. from his era, like Fred Lynn
from his era. These guys came out of the gate with the promise of perennial all-star games, batting, and home run titles, etc. ahead of them–but the promise was never realized in full because of injuries. That’s why, in order to be a Hall of Famer, you have to last and in some respects you need to have luck on your side. Unfortunately, these guys didn’t.

» Stevebsfan said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 01:07:00 }

By 7 year stretch, do you mean 3, maybe 4 year stretch?

It’s comments like that which make you seem .. well, like a moron. You’re just as bad as those at WEEI and the Globe with getting your facts wrong, except they’re at the opposite end of the spectrum as you. They bash players, you suck them off, but both of you guys get your facts wrong.

There have been many guys who put up better periods than Nomar has with the Sox… even more recently. Unless you forget Ramirez who hit more HR’s in his time with the Sox than Nomar has in his ENTIRE CAREER… let’s not forget the OPS average of roughly 1.000.

» Flying Squirrel said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 02:07:27 }

Nomar was the best Red Sox short stop hands down and anyone that thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. If he was surrounded by better talent in his early years I think he definitely would of helped us win a title. We never had the pitching to sustain a season and go deep into the playoffs until Theo took over. I personally liked seeing him get a standing O and it should what class and appreciation real Red Sox fans have not only for past players, but for the game itself.

» gooch said: { Jul 7, 2009 - 02:07:57 }

El pres…you should do a comparitive of Nomar in relation to Chase “Fuckin” Utley….LETS GO PHILLIES!!! 22-1
