I went to Fenway for his 1st home start w/the Sox. CG, 2-hitter, 13 K's (I might be off by 1 or 2), with all the D.R. flags waving in the stands. It felt like a world cup game. Sold from that moment on.

He was absolutely the most dominant athlete to take the field, any field, during my consious life. In addition to all those amazing games listed by El Pres, the moment for me was during the 7th game of the '04 ALCS when Francona inexplicably put Pedro in for for relief of Derek Lowe with the score 8-0 in front of, an up till the moment, stultified Yankee crowd. Rattled by the booming chants of "Who's your daddy" Pedro gave up hit after hit and it appeared while the Red Sox would still easily win the master would be would be shown up by the fans themselves. At that moment he reached back and lit the gun at 98 MPH for the final two outs of the inning against Olerud (swinging) and Cairo (flyout) I felt like I was watching the Grand Finale with the fireworks exploding over the Esplanade. I knew at that moment I would never see this Pedro again. I still like to watch him and root for him because he reminds me of who he once was. I can still see in my mind Gary Sheffield's knees buckling in front of his 12-6 curveball. Damn!

I used to love it when Pedro was on the hill and in the first inning the opposing team would play the infield in because they knew they weren't going to score any runs and had to keep every run off the board, there's no one in the game right now that you'll see on the mound that demands that sort of respect.

Courtesy of ESPN.com

Martinez is 11-11 with a 3.20 ERA in 32 career starts against the Yankees in the regular season, and was 8-4 with a 2.95 ERA in 16 career starts at the old Yankee Stadium. He is 1-2 with a 4.72 ERA in six postseason appearances against the Yankees, and is 0-2 with a 5.93 ERA in his past five.

He influences runs for the Yanks if that's what you mean?
