Sure, a lot of PA kids are from privileged families, but a majority of the students are on financial aid. And, above all, it’s pretty hard to tell who has money and who doesn’t, especially in the boarding environment. That said, (most) kids are in this school because they’re incredibly smart, incredibly athletic, or a combination of the two. If you’re just rich and don’t have much else going for you, you’re not going to do well at Andover.
So cut the “rich kid” bullshit. That seems to be the only argument y’all can make.

You’ll find that the ones who actually do stuff to give the school the prestige it gets are some of the chillest…or from Korea

Allow me to rattle off the names of a few prep schools that still have a social structure and admissions office dominated by the mindsets of legacies residing in Greenwich and New Canaan: Deerfield Academy, Loomis Chaffee, Choate Rosemary Hall, Kent, Suffield, Westminster, Nobles… Andover is the last school with an elitist social hierarchy or a Round Hill Road mentality. Students who try to impose this kind of environment on Andover’s campus are marginalized almost instantly. Andover’s students are limitlessly flawed within the distinct social arena created on campus, but undeservingly privileged douchebags are not what you’re seeing here in this video.

not going to lie, there are some rich douchebags at andover. there are rich douchebags at andover high, at the public schools I went to, and basically everywhere. but the majority of andover kids are there because they’re smart and the try really fucking hard at everything. i personally know everyone in this video, and there are definitey some upper class kids there. also some middle class kids, and the everything else. if you’re smart enough and you want to go there, it doesnt matter how much money you have, and none (or at least very few) of the PA kids give a shit. and andover is more racially diverse than probably the vast majority of public schools so cut that bullshit too. using myself as an example of a fairly typical andover kid: i went to public school my whole life, then transferred to andover on a large scholarship. I was lucky for the chance to not only get a great education but also meet some very chill people from all over the world, and all for not much more than it would cost me to live in my house.
lastly, these kids don’t take themselves that seriously… the video is probably funnier for andover kids than for anyone else, and im sure the kids in the video laugh at it too. the idea of a rap a advertising andover is just a funny juxtapostion and so go ahead an laugh… its a joke.

We know what stereotypes pervade, and not all of us are proud of it. yes we’re preppy, and we get some of the best speakers in the country to come, and we have amazing facilities, but we are still just high schools. It is what it is, and this video is doing exactly what its intent was–to publicize PA in a healthy way. Auto-tune excessive? Yes, and lacking many student organizations, but a great reminder of what it means to go to PA or any other prep school–it’s the intense community and collaboration that makes these schools great. And yes, I went to PEA, didn’t get into an Ivy, but I wouldn’t have traded my four years there for anywhere else.
PS–PEA uses George Bush as a taunt at E/a. So much of a better chant than red meat. just sayin’.

and for the people who said “i wish i went to andover and didn’t have to work hard,” shut the fuck up. i had to work so much at that school, and always had a bunch of work.
that same argument would pertain to any top college. so i guess you guys are basically shitting on the collegiate system.
