Rex Ryan Asks Joe Girardi to Teach Mark Sanchez How to Slide

NJ.comThe education of Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez continued today in practice with Yankees manager Joe Girardi stopping by to teach him the art of sliding. Sanchez… has been reluctant to slide despite repeated pleas from the organization. On Monday, coach Rex Ryan stressed the point to Sanchez in a team meeting. “I want to make sure we do everything in our power to provide him with the best tools,” said Ryan. “He’s the face of our franchise. We have to keep him healthy.” Ryan, who said he came up with the idea on Monday night, called Yankees team president Randy Levine this morning and asked him if he could send someone to practice to tutor Sanchez on sliding off his right knee… Ryan said he was surprised when Girardi was available and agreed to come. Girardi also spoke to the team. “He’s a natural,” said Ryan. “He did a great job. He did a better job than I could do. When you have an opportunity to get the best, you get the best.”

So let me get this straight.  Rex Ryan is a towering genius of a coach.  A brash, uber-confident motivator of men.  He’s got a franchise quarterback the team invested tons of draft picks and umpteen millions of dollars in cap space to obtain, and there’s nobody in the Jets organization capable of teaching him how to slide?  So they bring in noted baserunning technician Joe Girardi to train him up?  This would be the same Joe Girardi who had 44 stolen bases and 31 caught stealings in 15 Major League seasons?  This is like a Perfect Storm of incompetence and suckassery.  Please tell me the video of this is available so I can use it as and instructional tape next time I’m coaching kids.  Or better yet, just to see the pure hilarity of watching three buffoons performing their chosen professions about as badly as it can be done.  What T-Rex is too dumb to figure out is the reason Girardi is available is the Yankees don’t need him for anything else.  When you’ve got a $200 million team, all you need to do it put on the uniform and tape the “Joe Girardi Show” on YES Network.  He was no doubt thrilled to get the invite because no one in the Bronx has asked him to do anything all year and he was happy just to get out of the office.  Of course if Ryan was smart, he would’ve called Dave Eiland and asked him to teach Sanchize how to throw.

They should have got Johnny Damon to teach him, you know somebody that knows how to steal bases. YES should film that shit though that’d be fucking hilarious.
