PFT - Any NFL coach who misses the playoffs for two straight seasons has to know that he’s on the hot seat. But after missing the playoffs last year, Jets coach Rex Ryan says he doesn’t see any way he’s getting fired. Asked on the Michael Kay Show about the possibility that he could be gone if this season is as disappointing as last season, Ryan said he doesn’t think so. “I know I’m a great coach, and what makes me a great coach is the guys that coach with me and the guys that play for me,” Ryan said. “It’s hard for me to look at myself as not being successful. I don’t see that as a possibility. One day, it might be 10 years from now or 15 years from now when Woody Johnson wants to go in a different direction, and that’s fine.”

Has there ever been a man who loves the taste his own wang more than Rex Ryan? I mean, this was the year he vowed he was going to stop shooting his mouth off and put and end to that whole tired, played out, phoney baloney swagger act and expected his players to do the same.  But there’s better odds of him turning down a pork chop than passing up the chance to remind the world what a great coach he is.  Just check out that answer again.  Eight references to “me,” “myself” and “I” in the first three sentences.  And this is a question 3/4 of the coaches in the league get asked every year at this time and to a man they all have the professional decency to give the same stock answer about having to prove themselves every year.  Hell, Andy Reid from the Eagles last week called out his own agent for suggesting his job is safe.  And Reid at least has somewhat of a resume’.  But not this barrage balloon.  He looks at 2 blowout losses in the AFC Championship Game and an 8-8 year and the Dysfunctional Family Circus roster he’s put together and sees himself hanging onto the job forever like he’s Don Shula.  The Giants might be the bane of my existence and all, but I’ve got to hand it to the NY Post for getting it right on the money:
