Rhode Island Bans Prostitution Effective Immedietly…Wait What?

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Police could start targeting some of the more than 30 suspected brothels operating across Rhode Island after Gov. Don Carcieri signed legislation Tuesday banning indoor prostitution in the only state where it was legal besides parts of Nevada. The new law, which took effect immediately, makes prostitution a misdemeanor crime regardless of where it occurs. Prostitutes will face up to six months in prison for a first offense, while customers and prostitutes convicted of a subsequent offense could be punished by a maximum one-year sentence. State officials hope the new law will help drive the brothels out of business, either because they voluntarily shut down or are targeted by police. State lawmakers inadvertently opened the loophole in 1980 when they passed legislation trying to crack down on prostitutes and their customers creating havoc in the West End of Providence. They adopted a law targeting those who sold sex in public, but it was silent on indoor prostitution. Judges would later rule the change had the effect of legalizing paid sex in private.
You want to know what’s the most fucked up part of this story. I really didn’t even know prostitution was legal in Little Vegas. Yeah people would sometimes mention it in passing and I knew that Rhode Island had no morals, but it still never really hit me. Like I never really comprehended that I could hop in my car and 45 minutes later legally pay a bitch to suck my dick. I don’t know how or why this fact escaped me, but it just did. And now poof it’s gone before I even really knew it was there. Now I just feel empty. Like shouldn’t the Governor have made a big announcement that “This Is The Last Week Of Legal Prostitution in Rhode Island So Get Your Fucking In While It Lasts!” That would have been the gentlemanly thing to do right? Sort of like last call at a bar.

Because the casinos are in CT…?
good point. maybe the dumbest thing I’ve ever said and that’s fighting words
yeah but 20 minutes away legal whores, close enough. Sad day in rhody indeed, but the spas shouldnt be affected by this
Stupid move by RI, these brothels have been the only growth industry in RI and the State should have allowed them to stay open and tax them. RI’s unemployment rate is going to jump to 20%. These states could return to financial solvency by legalizing weed, prostitution and opening a sports book in every city.
Fuck you Craigslist killer! You really fucked us all over. Because of you my wife knows Craigslist isn’t just a place to buy old furniture and now you fucking got prostitution made illegal in RI because you decided to attack a couple of hookers inside hotels.
I hope you get ass-raped from now until the day you die you fucking cock-block!
it was covered daily last week in the prov journal. and the spas were backed up all weekend. the spas will be closing cause the law goes after their landlords too. that criagslist killer fucked us all.
brings up a good point though pres – casinos owned by indians, indians have no laws (other than “make ill advised land deals; drink firewater to feel better”), so casinos should also have these spas
This doesn’t mean that your closing up shop at your house, does it?
