RIP Steve Sabol
NFL – The football world says goodbye to a legend of the sport on Tuesday. Steve Sabol, President of NFL Films, has died just weeks away from 70th birthday after an 18 month battle with brain cancer.
RIP Steve Sabol. I think you could argue he was just as important to the success of the NFL if not more so than any other living person today. Just revolutionized the way people thought of the game and watched it. Growing up my favorite part of the Superbowl every year was watching the endless reruns of the past Superbowls always beginning with the Steve Sabol intro before turning it over to John Facenda. Just got me addicted to loving the NFL. And longtime Stoolies know that I’ll still drop at least 2 or 3 NFL films quotes per week. “More grit than glitter, more spit than polish etc. The guy was the absolute best at what he did. RIP Steve Sabol. May the autumn wind be with you…..

Feel the same way, Pres, loved those old Super Bowl recaps. RIP Steve.
scratch just the NFL, he changed the face of American sports. all the other leagues have been imitating NFL Films for years now with these documentaries and great montage intros. RIP indeed.
RIP stevie, i wish it was elpres instead of you
PS happy roskanaa or whatever it is elpres for your people
“More grit than glitter, more spit than polish………more nose than knows
Not for nothing but I think his dad was really the one to pave the way and change how people view football. Steve certainly did a great job taking it the next step though. All I know is whoever decided to put those horns in the videos is a genius.
“May the autumn wind be with you” might be the gayest thing you have ever said. And thats saying alot.
“The Broncos passed out gifts like a department store Santa, and the hustling Cowboys gleefully scooped up the goodies.”–John Facenda from Super Bowl XII.
The Autumn Wind, regardless of team affiliation, is the best NFL films song/sound clip ever. There is simply no debate. That thing gives me the chills every time I hear it.
Sir-smoke-alot- with all do respect buddy, go fuck urself. RIP Steve, the fuckin man.
RIP. The guy was a true genius and innovator. Very sad, too young to die
a sad day for sports. this guy’s work and narrations played a huge part in my early love affair with football. i used to wake up at 6 AM every sunday when i played Pop Warner, and I’d Turtle Wax my helmet (seriously…not a masturbation joke)as i watched “NFL Crunch Course” and/or “NFL’s Greatest Hits” to get jacked up. Thanks for everything, Steve! Rest well, my man.
