DM - Sylvia Kystel, star of the 1970s soft porn Emmanuelle movies, has died of cancer at the age of 60. Kristel starred in five Emmanuelle films between 1974 and 1993 and another six TV spin-offs. The series of French-made erotic movies are famed for bringing soft-core pornography to mainstream cinema. Kristel also became famous for her steamy nude scenes in another 40 films, including lead roles in X-rated versions of Lady Chatterley’s Lover and World War One spy drama Mata Hari. She accidentally went for an audition for Emmanuelle, having intended to try out for a television commercial next door. She was asked to remove her dress and, after slipping it off and letting it fall to the floor, was told she had the part. The movie told the story of a bored housewife living with a diplomat in Asia who fills her time having sex with various people.

Watching Emmanuelle movies late night on Cinemax in my room was a constant thing from about 6th grade through 9th grade. She was a legend!
Back in the dark ages, before you could type “Teen Anal Asian Creampie” into a search bar and before you were old enough to easily get a hold of quality hardcore on VHS, there was Cinemax After Dark. And outside of a showing of Hardbodies, Emanuelle was all you had. And it was really fucking weird. 70′s euro style costumes, strange music (lot of jazz flute) with full untrimmed bushes everywhere. The sex scenes were always intercut with some odd dancing. And just when things got good or in focus..BAM. The movie switches to some bearded guy in a hat smoking a pipe at a bar on the French Riviera. I doubt you could even get wood watching it by today’s standards. But back then, when it was all you had (before any sort of DVR of pausing ability) you were at full mast for two hours of horrendous voice dubbing and indecipherable plot lines just for the chance to see what you might be able to talk yourself into thinking was actual fucking.
