The Jets’ Santonio Holmes on NFL.com“If you guys want to be, and this is for the New York media, if you guys want to be a part of our team and want to feel so important, be there to support us, not to try to break us down. …Because (there’s) not one day that we all step in that locker room and we try to break each other down, that we talk bad about the way that person played because it affects the team the way one person plays if they don’t play to perfection… If the New York media wants to be a part of our team and wants to continue writing about us, write positive things, stay away from the negative because it doesn’t do anything good for our team that you want to report all the negative things that happen and that’s all you want to talk to us players about. We live for one thing and that’s to play football and not to entertain you people in the media.”

I swear if the Rex Ryan version of New York Jets didn’t exist, you’d have to invent them.  I mean, plenty of teams have rivals.  But what other team in any other sport besides the Pats can claim a division opponent that’s as utterly, consistently and preposterously goofy as the Jets are?  Read through what Holmes is saying here.  Let it sink in.  This would be laughable coming from anybody.  But this is from a guy who flat out quit on his team last year, by any definition of the word.  In their last game he stopped running routes.  He yelled at his Mark Sanchez in the huddle.  Then refused to listen to plays.  He finally got yanked off the field by his OC before he got someone killed, went to the sidelines, sat by himself and wouldn’t talk to anyone.  Oh, and did I mention that he openly undermined his QB in public, drew an unsportsmanlike for an end zone celebration with his team losing by 18 points, and was such a gawdawful captain that Ryan has decided to do away with captaincies altogether?  And that he’s playing for a team that hasn’t won anything since his father was in diapers?  THAT Santonio Holmes is telling the press in New York to support the team and not try to break them down because they don’t try to break each other down and to only write positive things and to stay away from the negative things that happen because it doesn’t do any good for the team and besides they’re not there to entertain anyone. It’s so nonsensical that it’s brilliant. Just the perfect blend of stupidity, cluelessness and pretzel logic.  And that’s why there’s not another team in the NFL I’d rather have going up against the Pats twice year.  I NEED the Jets. They complete me. They’re the Joker to our Batman.  As Jean Girard would say even Diane Sawyer needed Katie Couric.  I’m glad Santonio Holmes is our Katie Couric.

PS. Once again I find myself saying: Imagine for one second the reaction if someone on the Pats said this.  @JerryThornton1
