(PS – Jerry and I posted these last two blogs at the same time. It was a total coincidence, but it’s funny how he and I both noticed WEEI talking about how Nomar would get booed. And people wonder why the Stool is so popular? We’re the only people in this town that aren’t fucking morons. Look, I’m a diehard Sox fan…. LOVE the Pats (worked every day with the players for 3 years…which is why I have masive respect for guys like Rodney…super good man) but I have a Sox heart…Nomar was NO diff. than Manny….quit on my town….Fuck You… You’re problem not ours. But about Nomar… If you did not feel the least bit happy for the guy who was for quite some time the only watchable player on the Red Sox (beside Pedro) then you’re delusional. It wasn’t that long ago when the Sox were playing second fiddle to the Yankees. I admit that the standing o went on a for a little too long but that can be attributed to the fact that Nomar is on the A’s – a team that is a non-threat in the long run. Don’t forget what Nomar gave Boston this city – an exciting player on some unwatchable Red Sox teams.
Agreed, Nomar was extremely fun to watch before he broke down.
This is not the Middle East Peace Process. It’s pretty easy:
• Dude thought he was worth more
• Management didn’t. They extended him an offer, he refused, thinking he’d get more.
• Management thought they’d better move him before he either A) Breaks down again; or B) He leaves and they get nothing for him.
• They trade him, he breaks down again, and they got something for him. They got OC and won the WS.
How is this a hard situation? Lots of times, athletes turn down $$ because they think they’ll get more. Sometimes they wind up being right, and other times they don’t. Nomar was wrong in this case.
Johnny Damon once said that it was pretty simple, the Yankees offered a little bit higher per year, but they offered an EXTRA year. And that’s what he was looking for. He would have stayed in Boston if they gave him the extra year. Total, it was like $13 million.
