About fucking time. That’s all I can say. My only complaint is that the Sox didn’t force LA to take Lackey as part of this deal. I don’t care whether Dr. Creepy had to pay them to take em, just get that guy the fuck out of here. Either way though this is finally a huge step in the right direction. It only took the Sox a year to figure it out that Beckett is a clubhouse cancer and Godzalez is soft as a marshmellow and a bum who can’t play under pressure. There was just no way this team would ever win with those two on the roster . This was the only option left. Blowing shit up and starting over. And at the very least once this deal is finalized I can finally root for these guys again.
PS – If Beckett vetoes this deal I will put a 2 million Internet dollar bounty on his head to the first Stoolie who murders him and Theo Epstein for that matter.

Beckett was not a clubhouse cancer. He was a washed up #4 or 5 starter who couldn’t learn how to get guys out with diminished talent. The story that he was a clubhouse killer who didn’t care about winning is a myth created and perpetuated by Mike Felger. Yes, he was a prick, and yes, he was an asshole, but that had nothing to do with the poor culture in the clubhouse. The poor culture in the clubhouse was caused by guys like Crawford and Gonzalez who know absolutely nothing about winning and sense of urgency. When guys with their female-like attitudes are the highest paid guys on the team and their wishes are catered to by ownership/management, the rest will follow. Winning becomes a low priority. Getting rid of these two and the manager is what will change the culture. Being able to dump an overpaid, aging pitcher and get a couple prospects in return is a huge bonus.
They gotta start auditions now. Bring up Brentz, Inglesias, Carpenter, and the new guys, etc. Rays style. Blue collar players. Guys that care. I hope Beckett gets AIDS from Magic.

If you really think that Gonzo was traded as part of “taking out the trash” you have zero credibility in terms of baseball analysis. Gonzo is the prize for LA for “accepting the trash”. His contract is 100% worth it. His glove + his offensive numbers puts him just one notch below Pujols. Yeah, he’s not a clubhouse leader, but if could’ve held onto him, we would have.
LA claimed Beckett off waivers knowing that by doing so, they could get the offensive 1st baseball that James Loney never turned out to be.
