That Was Fun While it Lasted
The thing you get when you’re a Fighting Irish fan is yours is the team everyone loves to hate. Like with Patriots and Celtics, due to your past success it comes with the territory. So when you lose a big one, the rest of the world makes salty margaritas out of your tears and happily sips them while relaxing in a bathtub of your blood. I get that. And I have no problem with it. To have any chance against Bama, Notre Dame needed to play a perfect game. And they responded with a perfectly gawdawful game. They played like a team that had never been in a big game and wasn’t ready for the moment. Way too emotional. Offside penalties. Over pursuits. Fumbled punts. Fielding a punt on the 4 yard line. And missed tackles. Piles of missed tackles. Mounds, hillocks, foothills, mountains, mountain ranges of missed tackles. Watching that mess it’s hard to imagine this is the same defense that only gave up 10 offensive touchdowns all season.
Not that it was all Notre Dame playing like garbage. There are no moral victories and all that, but there’s not a lot of shame in losing to that Alabama team. I have a confession to make: I like Nick Saban. A lot. Almost to mancrush levels. I know he’s a mercenary and it’s only a matter of time before he leaves Bama for the NFL then goes back to college and cashes in every step of the way. But that’s just doing business. Like Michael told Sen. Geary “We’re all part of the same hypocracy.” The thing I like about Saban is I spend more time on geeky football strategy websites than any man should, and he’s always on them. Conducting coaching seminars, laying out his philosophy, explaining his schemes. He’s one of those guys who knows how to coach tackle football and doesn’t hide what he knows like it’s the nuclear launch codes. And obviously he can recruit like nobody in the business. He had the Irish completely outsized and outmatched in the trenches. They ran left all night right into the strength of the ND defense and blew them off the ball. They won 1-on-1 matchups and still sent extra rushers. And if Dee Milliner could make his way onto the Patriots roster, I’d have him starting at corner this Sunday, no tryout necessary.
The bottom line is Notre Dame went from unranked to the national championship game. They were playing with the houses money, but ran into a team that was who we thought they were. Bama is only the best in the game, they’re the best by far. So enjoy it, Notre Dame haters. But don’t act like you’re not impressed. @JerryThornton1

No, the bottom line is that no one gives a fuck that they went from unrated to an appearance in the championship game. The bottom line is that ND had no business being there
Think any of those “missed tackles” had anything to do with the fact that the players they were trying to tackle were faster, stronger, and more talented than the ND players?
Notre Dame in BCS games loose by an anverage of 28 Pts. I cant even begin to describe how pathetic that is. They should be be playing all their bowls in mid-december until they join a conference
Think nd does any better against Georgia? Maybe they only give up 40 points
You’re a fucking idiot Tyler.
ND was outmatched and outclassed last night. Alabama made Te’o look pretty bad.
And yes, ND played a crappy game. But the defense was beaten at every facet. Secondary players running into each other, defensive lineman putting almost no pressure on the quarterback, and the Alabama running backs running 9 yards per carry UP THE MIDDLE.
ND could have played a lot better but the outcome would have been the same. The best you can rest your hat on, Jerry, is that the season will help give the team experience at the BCS level and will be good for recruiting next season.
Nevertheless, last night Alabama manhandled ND. I don’t think a “perfect” game from ND would have changed that too much.
Yea I’m a real fucking idiot. What was the score of that game?
@boston, if they had the 4 team playoff this year ND would never been in the title game.
Did anybody give Ohio St. this much shit when they got beat just as bad by Florida in ’07? has nothing to do with being in a conference. The SEC has taken over college football which is just as well because the north has taken over the NFL. ND belonged in the game because they were undefeated; they got drubbed because they’re a college football team not from the South.
Under the current system, ND deserved to be in this game. The problem is, the current system sucks. Put ND in an 8 team playoff and they lose in Round 1. In a 16 team playoff, they probably make it to Round 2, but then lose. Alabama vs. Oregon would have been a much better matchup. Nevermind all the hype and nostalgia that ND brings to the table — Oregon would have made for a much more competitive game (although I still think Alabama would win playing the way they played last night).
Not surprised Jerry is a ND fan. Another turd that loves ND because he was born Irish I bet. No ties to the school other than their mascot. They think they are too good to join a conference because they were relevant 20 something years ago. ND ruined what was once the best BB conference (Big East) and will undoubtedly do the same to the ACC. Their one sided “home and homes” are cowardly at best. As much as I hate ESPN and the SEC and all the bias they put out there, I hate ND and NBC more for ruining college football.
The real bottom line is that Notre Dame will never be in the national championship again. Ever. Once they go to the playoffs – if by some miracle ND makes that – they will be demolished by the first round team.
Watching this game at a bar full of people who have absolutely zero connection with ND aside from their ancestors’ blood line was a ton of fun.
Agreed with broman. There is nothing more annoying than losers with no ties to ND who root for them just because they’re Irish. I’m Irish, and I hate everything about ND. Does every American root for the Patriots because they’re called the Patriots? No, because that’s a fucking stupid reason to root for a team.
The only people impressed this year by ND were its own fans – being undefeated meant they could wear their pullovers, hats, and Ron Powlus jerseys 24/7. I am sure most of them are bankrupt today from betting their mother’s claddagh ring on the game. ND was not fit to clean up the Alabama locker room last night, and that team will serve as a huge justification for BCS playoffs.
Forrest Gump maintained a >2.0 GPA while at Alabama
Tyler you’re a fucking idiot because they did have the right to be in that game. They had a tough schedule and they won every game. Plain and simple. Now did they get the shit kicked out of them, yes. They are a long way from beating Bama and Nick Saban having a month to prepare. Saying that they had no business being there is moronic, just like yourself. And broman you are dumber than Tyler, which is almost impossible. Did it ever dawn on you that football fans like the Irish because it is the biggest and most notorious catholic university in the country? You fucking fools. That’s the connection dipshit. And maybe seeing a head coach that grew up in Boston and went to school at Assumption in Worcester would have been better than seeing the inbreds from Bama’ celebrate again. You shitheads are on a different level. A real dumb one.
Glad to see your alive Jerry, was worried I wouldn’t get my Patriots analysis anymore. I think I have to go with the consensus on this one though, despite a few bad calls early and abysmal tackling..I think they just didn’t have a matchup. Just weren’t good enough no matter how well they played. Give Saban a month and there is very little an opposing coach can do..Bill B school of coaching on display
If you’re so smart you’d understand the negative connotation of the word notorious. Go look it up, after you look up connotation.
Jerry, it has NOTHING to do with past successes that makes everyone else hate ND and their “fans”. Its people like you who are “fans” for no good reason. Get a fucking life. Awesome, your loser uncle bought you a Fighting Irish sweatshirt when you were 10. I can’t believe all you clowns can’t see that THAT’S why we hate you. Jerry, you fucking herb, pretending it’s because of all “your” success.
Any Johnny Football haters out there still think the Heisman should’ve gone to Teo now?
you gotta remember tho jerry is about 60 years old. so when he was the age of the average barstool reader the irish were actually good.
Notre Dame lost 2 out of 3 to Navy. Just sayin’.
That’s what you come back with Laxatives. That’s awesome, because now I know I proved my point and you feel like a fool. First, notorious does not have to be negative connotation. It is just stating that it is publicly or generally known. Second and more important, when you lose an argument or realize that the things you say are fucking stupid and not thought out, just apologize and go on your way. Save face so to speak. That advice will help you in the future
Whatwhat, you fucking negro. (Because I know you are) The reason most people are fans of ND is that it is a CATHOLIC university you dumb motherfucker!!!!!! Most people had either went to ND or have uncles, aunts, cousins, parents, grandparents that went to that school. BECAUSE IT IS A FUCKING CATHOLIC SCHOOL!!!! Dumb does not even begin to explain.
Nah dude. Notorious, colloquially, is known to have a negative connotation to it. I certainly do not feel like a fool, and I don’t know what point you proved. For weeks I’ve been saying ND played a schedule that looked ok when the year started but ended up being pretty easy. That their one common opponent was Stanford who Bama absolutely blew out. That ND had never seen anything like the line play that would come from Bama. And that their “vaunted defense” would look like a JV team playing against a real offense and offensive line.
I think I DEFINITELY proved my point.
Do you really think that the majority of people that root for ND “had either went to ND” (brilliant) or have family that did? Where the fuck are you from? 95% of people in the Boston area have absolutely zero connection to that school.
Not once in the past few weeks did I see any of your so called posts about any of the shit you just said, only after the fact. Of course. The only thing I saw you wrote was “Watching this game at a bar full of people who have absolutely zero connection with ND aside from their ancestors’ blood line was a ton of fun.” Which is the stupidest statement as I have pointed out 5 times already. Lastly, “Nick Saban is notorious for being prepared after a month off” That sound negative? You dumb fuck
95% of Boston has zero connection to a Catholic University? Dude, go back to the basement and keep playing your video games. You are a fucking idiot
Massachusetts has the highest catholic population in the entire country. WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!
knee jerk reaction – Jerry’s a fucking geriatric moron with a soft cock and old saggy balls
There’s a Catholic football school in Boston (that splits its series with ND). Trust me when I tell you the connection is more with the nickname “Irish” than it is with the Catholicism of the school. And if you root for a football team because the school espouses your religious beliefs, you’re an enormous loser.
Are you really still trying to argue that the word notorious doesn’t have a negative connotation? Drop it. You’re wrong.
Also, in case you actually need proof that I’ve been saying they’d get killed for weeks, check Jerry’s blogs from November 18 and November 24.
I agree with you otwisted. I was just saying they deserved to be there for winning 12 games this year. I’m sure they would have lost in the 1st round. Not the point I was making.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are the Dallas Cowboys of the NCAA. They have a few great fans, sure, but for the most part they’re a bunch of frauds that root for them for no apparent reason
Are you from Boston Hidden? Do you think that maybe people were rooting for ND because the HEAD COACH is from Boston. Born and raised. Went to school in Mass, coached in Mass. Maybe they were rooting for them because half the fucking team is white kids from all over. Maybe they root for them for obvious reasons like the fact they are a Catholic University and Boston just so happens to be 50% catholic. Maybe some root for them because they have a shamrock on their helmet. Maybe the bigger question is, why would you root for Ala-fucking-bama? What connection do you have to that inbred fucking shithole? Any? Didn’t think so.
Real easy to shit on the Irish after they lost big. They had a great season and beat bowl winning and bowl competitive teams all year long. They simply flat out laid an egg. They were seriously overwhelmed by the moment and by the opponent, but they are 10 times better than what they showed last night. I think if that’s a regular season game they lose by two TD’s max, they will learn from this experience and continue to improve. Need to get BIGGER and FASTER for sure
I like the red on their uniforms and how their name is a euphemism for a period.
Yes, I’m from Boston. Can I ask how old you are? My guess is a teenager, if you really think there’s a large crop of people that like ND because of Brian Kelly. I grew up with a ton of people that rooted for ND well before the days of Brian Kelly and who rooted for them because of their cute little leprechaun on the helmet. These are the type of people that everyone else here is talking about. If you know Brian Kelly, or always liked Brian Kelly back when he was at Assumption, then good for you. You have a more legitimate reason to root for Notre Dame than just about everyone else (outside of alumni) do.
P.S. It takes balls and determination to be an Irish fan, therefore I dont think there are as many fake fans out there as people think. It’s damn hard to root for this team after the past decade, just happy they gave us some hope this season
Hidden, you twist shit to fit your argument. I never said that there was “large crop of people” that like ND because of Kelly. Maybe there were a few people out last night that knew Kelly, went to school with him, knew his family in Boston. And then in return, they raise their kids to like ND because of that. Maybe there were guys out last night that had an uncle or father or brother go to ND because again, it is a CATHOLIC university. And they raise there kids to be ND fans. That’s how it works you dumb fuck. I would much rather root for a white catholic kid from Indiana than a brother from Montgomery, AL. Sorry if that bothers you but I don’t give a fuck. ND will be around the BCS for a long time, get used to it.
Yeah I’d much rather root for Everett Golson than AJ McCarron. Good point. And you can call me a dumb fuck and capitaliza CATHOLIC all you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that the great majority of people that root for ND in Boton have no relatives that graduated from there.
I hope they’re around the BCS for a long time. Last night was fun.
Alabama just scored again
Hidden, are you a kike? I have a sneaking suspicion that you wear a Yamaka and eat kosher food. I know you’re not catholic, that’s for sure. Anyways, your point that people rooting for ND have no reason to root for them has been blasted away. I won, that’s obvious. If you are a true Bostonian you should travel down to good ol Alabama and see how much they care for your type of folk. You may not be rooting for those fucking inbreds next year.
I’m Irish Catholic pal. I like college football enough to watch casually. Just hate Notre Dame. I have no love for Alabama, I just knew whatever team won the SEC title game was going to have its way with ND. I would have been a Georgia fan last night had they beaten Alabama last month.
And I think I won that argument. I also thought it was obvious. I guess we’re just going to have to agree to disagree. What a shame.
notre dame fans are hands down the worst, besides duke basketball fans. 99.8 percent of them are mouth breathing idiots who aren’t qualified to clean floors at the school, let alone attend it. they aren’t from indiana and they have no connection to the school other than the pretty logo and the fact that they are unfortunate enough to have a shanty heritage. if the team was called the notre dame greasy dago, the notre dame jews, or the notre dame tigers their “fans” would despise the team. i’m just glad they’re all crying in their potatoes tonight. they’ll be back to irrelevance shortly.
Thank you hidden, that’s all I wanted. You are smarter than I had you pegged for, finally admitting you were wrong. You are not Catholic by the way. Not a real one at least. And going to mass on Easter doesn’t count. Because any real catholic would not HATE the most prominent university for their religion in the country. You are one stupid son of a bitch, aren’t you? As in, really fucking dumb. Go hang out with yinkadore and get fucked by some Alabama Black Snake
@bostonsbetter2 so you mean to tell me you are catholic and from boston, and because of that you are a ND fan. I’m pretty sure there is a D1 catholic school a little bit closer ie Boston College, but I’m guessing you only like them when they are in the national championship too
Your posts are just overflowing with bitterness. That Alabama Black snake you speak of still stuck up your ass after last night? Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I support all kinds of relationships- interracial, homosexual, etc.
And I’m a stupid son of a bitch because I’m Catholic and hate Notre Dame? That’s some really bad logic. I go to church regularly, not that that’s germane to this conversation. I grew up in Boston so I root for the other Irish Catholic school playing D1 football that has fallen on some pretty hard times. They might suck but at least they don’t rape people and murder their student cameraman. Is this where I should tell you how stupid you are? Insulting people is so un-Catholic.
Love BC, my old man went there. Grew up going to watch Flutie, Chmura, Mamula and all those guys. Still root for them. Best fucking hockey school in the country, bar none. But I also grew up watching ND because of uncles and cousins went there. Went to Assumption, where my uncle also went. Just so happens that is where Kelly went to school, after growing up in Boston. Which is also catholic. You see drifit, I’m not gonna root for some porch monkeys from down south when I can root for some white catholic kid playing for a national championship. Call me a racist, call me an idiot, call me whatever. These are the reasons people root for ND. I prefer rooting for kids that I can relate to and tend to agree with there beliefs. It’s common fucking sense frankly. But, Go Bama I guess. That sounds like a better idea.
wait a second, if you are catholic and hate notre dame, you aren’t a real catholic? is that what someone is implying? could it be that people hate notre dame not because it’s a catholic school, but because it’s douchebag “fans” (who didn’t even attend the fucking school) say things like “because any real catholic would not HATE the most prominent university for their religion in the country”? because you know that makes you sound like half a retard, right?
You must be from NY yinkadare, right? I just have a fucking sneaking suspicion that you are a fucking dirty slime ball from the dirtiest hole in the country. Is that correct? Am I wrong? You sleazy son of a bitch, you are huh? Like I said before, I’m not gonna root for some porch monkeys from down south when I can root for some white catholic kid playing for a national championship. Why would anyone hate a university at all you dumb fuck? Do you hate the school or the fans? Make up your mind dipshit
saying that nobody other than alums have any buisness liking Notre Dame is just plain retarded. So I guess people that didn’t go to a big time college football school aren’t allowed to be a fan of any team just because they didn’t go to that school?
