The Dolphins Say The Patriots Disrespected Them By Running The Same Play Over And Over On The Last Drive….Wait What?
BOSTON (CBS) — We’ve all heard about teams, coaches and especially media members accusing the Patriots of “running up” scores in the past, but this is certainly a new one. With the Patriots’ lead cut to just seven points midway through the fourth quarter of last week’s win, Tom Brady and the offense took over at the Miami 20-yard line and drove 77 yards on 16 plays, burning 7:18 off the clock and tacking on a field goal to put the game out of reach for the Dolphins. They did so by handing off the ball 10 times to Stevan Ridley, who gained 46 yards, and also giving the ball to Shane Vereen for an eight-yard run. Some Dolphins are claiming the Patriots were being “disrespectful” with their strategy. “It really (ticked) me off. It was disrespectful to us to run the same play over and over and be successful,” defensive tackle Tony McDaniel told the Palm Beach Post’s Brian Biggane. “Normally when somebody’s driving down the field you just think, ‘Well, they just had a good run there,’ but you run the same play over and over, as a competitor that (ticks) me off.” Randy Starks, McDaniel’s defensive linemate, agreed, though he didn’t seem to blame the Patriots for doing what they did. “It is disrespectful, but you’ve got to stop it,” Starks told Biggane. “We never stopped it, so I’d keep running the same play, too.”
I had to check this like 10 times to make sure this wasn’t the Onion before I blogged it. That’s how awesome this story is. Seriously this is the best Patriots article ever. Maybe the best article in the history of print media. The Dolphins complaining that the Pats disrespected them by running the same play every down. That is was rude to shove the ball down their throats at the end of the game like that. That they should have audibled to a different play that the Dolphins defense had a better chance to stop. I don’t have to explain it. I don’t have to crack jokes. This article stands alone and speaks for itself. The only thing that could have made this better is if Tony McDaniel said it was like “the 49ers scum play to John Taylor in Tecmo II”. Like it was a computer glitche or something. This is why you can never take anything the Patriots do for granted. You can’t take any victory they get for granted. Because the fact we’ve been so great for so long makes it easy to forget what life is like is like for the rest of the NFL. This is the shit other fanbases deal with week in and week out. Butt Fumbles one week and the opposing defense complaining that they were disrespected because we ran the same play over and over the next. It truly is great to be king.

I think more people hate them for running up the score, running trick plays like the Edelman one where he got hurt on an end-around when they’re up by a pile of points or the old ‘pad the fantasy points’ crap they pull by throwing to the end zone when its 3rd and 1 on the forty with 1 minute left and they’re winning by 3 touchdowns…and no one that knows the game is OK with it.

The “running up the score” bullshit doesn’t apply in professional sports. These guys are paid milions to play a game. It applies for amateur sports (high school, even college) where the kids aren’t being paid.
