Was This Little League Ump’s Call The Most Atrocious Call In the History of Sports?
Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. I don’t know what else to say. Unbelievable. Like all things considered this has to be the worst call in the history of not only sports, but modern civilization right? I mean yeah Don Denkinger’s call in the Royals vs. Cardinals 85 World Series which cost St. Louis the title was bad. Jim Joyce’s call that robbed Armando Gallaraga of a perfect game was brutal. But both pale in comparison to this. At least both those were bang bang plays. No time to think. They just made the wrong call in the heat of the moment. The same can’t be said here. The ump had time to think. He knew it was coming. This was an appeal play. An appeal play in Little League with a trip to Williamsport on the line.
I mean the fact that this play was so close that you can’t even tell if he clipped the bag on the replay makes it that much more surreal. Because I don’t care if the kid missed the bag by 2 feet. The only way you call him out here is if he ran directly from 2nd base to home. Otherwise you have to let the kids settle their dreams on the field. Just absolutely mind boggling how a grown man could make this call. You’re a volunteer ump bro. People aren’t there to watch you. Absolutely unreal. If I was Hawaii I would have rioted and stabbed that ump in the heart. Nobody has ever deserved to be murdered more than that guy.

N. California might want to make a move or two before they head to Williamsport in order to address the hole they have in left field, because that kid fucking sucks.
the worst call in history is a tie between the Pirates/Braves play at the plate from a couple years ago or the Todd Helton at first base where he was 3 feet off the base when he caught it. This is bad but not that bad, I dont think he touched it.
This is the lamest way to win a little league game. Seriously couldn’t even be excited with that kind of victory. Coach is a hard btw, just plotting Hawaii’s downfall
Gotta completely disagree on this one. There is a reason we have rules in any level of sport and that is so little squids like this don’t grow up thinking they are above the law. The rule states that you must make contact with each base and he clearly did not. To say it doesn’t matter and you should give him some slack because it’s only little league is a prime example of the pussification of American sports.
Classic Bro speaks the truth.
Over the line! Am i the only one who gives a shit about the rules? Smokey, you mark that frame a strike and you’re entering a world of pain.
WOW that was some bullshit.
Agree with classic bro. Prez, you said the ump had time to really think about whether or not he touched the bag, how this wasn’t a bang-bang play. Well, don’t you think the ump thought that over? Kid looked like he missed the bag. Sucks Hawaii’s dreams are crushed on a “bullshit play,” but the most bullshit thing about it is the kid not making a definitive step on the 3rd base bag. That’ll learn ‘em!
Total Hardo ump loved that he got to decide the game. Just an absolute Sandusky waiting to happen.
Classic- I couldn’t tell if he brushed the bag on the video, so if you’re going to say yes or no with the entire game riding on it, the best thing to do would be to do no harm if it’s at all questionable. If the kid absolutely whiffed, that’s one thing, as yeah, there are rules. This kid might or might not have though.
ummm worst call ? he missed the bag bro
Ump was right there to see it. Third base coach didn’t argue. Right call. Anybody who misses a base deserves to lose, despite the other team’s left fielder trying to give the game away.
P.S. props to the California kids for being the ones to bring it to coach’s attention. At least they were aware of what was going on.
Classic Bro is correct. Prez, you are really really stretching for material today cuz this is not blog worthy whatsoever. Little shit clearly missed the fucking bag. I know it. Hardo Cali coach knows it. The Ump knows it. End of story.
Kind of looks like he missed the bag on video, ump was right there. I support this call.
Kind of looks like he missed the bag on video, ump was right there. I support this call.
it was the right call and stop eating deadspins dick.
Prez, get it together bro. The most atrocious call in the history of sports? You need to get a grip
Well said, Pres. Unless he clearly misses the base by like 5 feet, there is NO WAY you can make this call in little league!
Classic bro and company can go fuck themselves…How about the opposite, jackasses? What the hell are we teaching kids that they can fuckin step off a mound, lob it to their dbag third basemen and then the old guy in the hat will make everything go away and you can make fun of your shitbag leftfielder on the bus over a few apple juices…
Prez is right on the money…and another thing…for my money, his foot clipped the bag regardless.
And the pussification of America continues: whiny bitch blogger cries because a bunch of brat kids had to follow the rules of baseball.
is Neil umping little league now?
had the ump ruled he touched the bag this blog would have been about bullshit umps letting kids bend the rules. border line rules need to be followed when, i dont know, some qb pumps pulls the ball down and then fumbles. but here rules dont apply?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyIBfDm0vO4 actually this is the worst call in the history of sports
dudes should definitely check out the screen-grab (it’s below the video).
If we have to guess whether you touched the bag, you’re doing it wrong.
Actually, I’m ok with the call…. Mostly because Hawaii’s third base coach looks like the biggest douche on the planet.
@whodatwhodat lmao
Worst calls in baseball are the one from the world series with the cardinals and royals and the one where the pitcher from the tigers was denied a perfect game.
Is this the most atrocious blog ever in sports? The crumb-snatcher missed the bag. End of discussion.
It’s not about if he actually touched the bag fuckfaces. It’s about the situation, man on 2nd two outs down one. You can’t fucking make a call to end the game, you’ve gotta let the kids earn the win. If I was on that team I would’ve told the ump to fuck off.
^^Just doesn’t get it.
I’m unsure whether or not he touches the bag. To say that it’s ‘clear’ that he misses the bag though? Now that, is a stretch.
To steal a quote from a local HS coach:
“I don’t know how many of you kids are still virgins but you’re not any more. You just got fucked”
Yet another reason why the LLWS has absolutely no business being on TV.
You either step on the bag, or you don’t. Its that simple. The kid missed the bag. Doesn’t matter what level of play it is. I don’t care if they play with bigger bases in Hawai’i or something like that, you have to step on the bag decisively every time.
Even if we pretend that the kid stepped on the bag, just barely grazing it the way he appeared to isn’t enough to make it look like he did. Bad coaching by Hawai’i.
Bigger question is how the fuck does the kid who hit that ball only get a double on that play? The left fielder COMPLETELY missed the ball, by the time that Cali kid picked it up Hawaii should’ve been high fiving everyone on the bench already. That tells you everything you need to know about that kid, even if he is a fat little Samoan, at least have the heart to move your little legs into 3rd. Kid will go absolutely nowhere with an effort like that. What a disgrace.
the little league umpire branch of KO barstool is going to be ripshit over that last line
Completely agree Mr. President. The other 5 (!!) umps should have huddled up and made that right. The fact the other coach would even appeal that call to win that way is fucking pathetic. The rest of you can go fuck yourselves (Wally).
^These are the same idiots who probably thought the Brady tuck rule was a good call too. The kid didn’t “clearly” miss the bag like some of you are saying, so the ump making that call so definitively is ridiculous. Like bledsoebradybill said, to say he clearly missed it is a bit of a stretch. If he flat out whiffed I’d be 100% behind the call. That’s not what happened though.
First 16 year old gymnasts and now we’re balls deep in the LLWS. Christmas came early for Portnoy!
who the fuck cares about the little league world series. thats pedophile shit. when they constantly run this on espn is a worse month than when they try to shove women’s french open and women’s world cup crap down everybody’s throats.
I sort of enjoyed the fat ass ump shitting on those kids’ dreams.
I don’t know if he hit the bag or not. I don’t care. If he stepped ON the bag like every other player in the universe this wouldn’t be a problem in the first place.
It’s a good call and the right call. Gotta play by the rules. One of the kids saw him miss it and so did the umpire.
Good lesson for the kids: No shortcuts in life.
Never played pro, but played through college. I never once did anything but step on TOP of a bag while running. You don’t coach that, if you don’t know it, you should lose.
just another demonstration of why elpres is as much an athlete as Bob Costas.
Is this a real blog? You act like he did a belly flop on third and they missed the call. Ohhh. … You have those very squinty eyes. My bad.
bullshit. he missed 3rd base, it’s simple. take that cock out of your mouth pres and wake the fuck up, youre blowing the blog
hardo ump trying to get some shine, happens too much. kid was close enough to the bag to have the call decide the game. Pres is right again, despite what some miserable cunts above believe.
the ump was a cunt. no need for the hard guy out call.
baseball sucks dick anyway, who cares?
looks like he missed the bag to me.
1999 ALCS – Game 4 — Red Sox v Yankees…..
Worse call ever was Chuck Knoblauch’s phantom tag of Jose Offerman. His glove was not within 4 feet of Jose Douchebag… WTF?
Umpire even apologized after the game.
Here is a video of Offerman punching an umpire in some Quesadilla League Baseball game.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/17/jose-offerman-punches-ump_n_426089.html
the appeal is a legit call. step ON the base, not over it. this is a clown blog bro.
if it was a close play at the plate, i have no problem with the appeal. but the kid scored when the ball was still at the fence. he woulda been safe whether he stepped on the bag or not.
plus there’s no way that amateur ump saw that kid miss the bag by a fuckin millimeter… dude’s a little league umpire for christ’s sake. basically the neils of the umpire world.
