Sam Adams Breaks ITunes
Do people see what we do here at the Stool? Are you beginning to get it? We’re always like 42 steps ahead of everybody else. For example last week we announce Barstoolpalooza. Basically that we’re taking the Stool on the road and doing parties throughout New England headlined by the rapper Sam Adams. A couple idiots were like who the fuck is Sam Adams? Has Pres has lost his mind? Well guess who has the #1 hip hop album in the country right now? Number fucking 1! Yup Sam Adams. #5 album overall. Because as we told you last week the dude is blowing up. His EP went on sale on Thursday and he is pretty much dominating the Billboard charts. Not bad for an unsigned artist huh? A little push from the Stool probably didn’t hurt either. Yet somehow I haven’t heard or seen this mentioned on one local TV or newspaper yet. How is that possible? Kid from Wayland/Cambridge is the hottest thing in music right now and we’re not only the only ones talking about him, we’re fucking going on tour with him. I guess everybody else must be too busy still trying to figure out what Chat Roulette is all about.

Q Tip has an agency no? I know Stoolies are dumb but do you see the difference between being unsigned and and signed. He has no label taking a huge cut. It’s him. It’s the internet. He gets virtually 100% of the sales. Nobody else does that. Everybody else on Itunes has a major label. If you can do that just be yourself without any radio play at all you’ve made it.

The iTunes Hip/Hop and R&B charts is not a definitive tool to use when new artists come out. Most of the new R&B and Hip/Hop artists sell their hit song that is currently out. For that reason and for the Hip/Hop genre, Billboard is a better gauge.
I would like to know the actual units sold on iTunes; then compare those numbers with Billboard’s. I’m only in the industry myself and have the education, but you already knew that.
Kind of like how you should just stick to what you know, and that is writing articles about cankles.

idk the indie rap scene is becoming more and more common…people like ice cube, atmosphere, and slum thug have all recently made a huge splash in terms of album sales with no major label push

Prez, this kid may have the 5th best selling itunes download for one fucking song but that shit will fade real soon. I just tried to find him on the billboards and I stopped looking after 100 or so. Top rap album in the country?? quite the bold statement
I’m pretty sure he is signed to some indy label, 1st Round Records or something like that. And I think he has some type of representation that does his marketing and press kit and all that stuff. There are a few vids on youtube of him being interviewed where they discuss that stuff.
So I’m sure a percentage of his sales goes out to other people, who knows how much. But yea he’s not signed to a major label, although after the way he took off on iTunes this weekend I’m sure he will be soon.
