Well the Red Sox dropped their fourth straight last night and dropped out of first place for the first time since June 9th. Naturally I’m sure it’s going to be pandemonium on WEEI today and on The Sports Hub. (that assumes Toucher and Rich know the Sox played last night) Now ordinarily I’d tell people to calm down because this is just what happens in baseball. You have good stretches. You have bad stretches. Sox lost 4 in a row last July too. It happens every single year to every team. Right now we’re not scoring runs but that will change and there is fundamentally nothing wrong with the Sox or the way they’re built. But this is not a normal year. The fact of the matter is that 3 out of the 4 best teams in baseball are all sitting in the AL East and only two can make the playoffs. Therefore the best team never to make the playoffs since the advent of the wildcard is going to happen this year and it’s going to be either the Sox, Yanks or DRays. Personally I’m still trying to get over the Pats not making the NFL playoffs with an 11–5 record so this is a scary proposition for me. So as much as I hate to say every fucking game is life or death in July it kind of is. Nobody is going to run away and hide in the AL East. It’s 100% going to come down to the last week of the season to see which 2 teams make the playoffs which is precisely why we can’t play the Yankees fast enough to help us break out of this slump.  And yes we’ll be starting our live blogs tonight on all Red Sox games.
