WRENTHAM“What started out as a quest to break this record has become the most unique community event that I’ve ever been a part of, that I’ve ever heard of,” said Lucas. The marathon ballgame doubled as a fund-raiser for local charities. The final score was 348 to 339, in 101 innings. To put those numbers in perspective, the longest professional game was played in 1981 between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings, lasting 33 innings, with the Sox besting the Wings, 3-2. Technically, this weekend’s “game” consisted of dozens of games played back-to-back, with new teams taking the field hourly. “I chose not to sleep,” said Terry McGovern, the league president. “But you know what? The kids, they invigorate me.”McGovern said Lucas presented the idea to him last year.”I just stared at him for 10 seconds,” McGovern said. “He’s the dreamer and I went right to the logistics. I didn’t think we could pull it off.”"I don’t think they’re quite certain what it is they’re doing, how big it all is,” she said.

Let me start by saying I’m all for charity. I don’t care if you get donations to watch TV for 24 straight hours, beat off for 24 straight hours or play a never ending baseball game. Anytime you raise money for a good cause it’s worth it. But having said that I’m not sure what the big hubabaloo is about this game. It’s not like the same kids played non stop for 101 innings. It was different teams every hour and the score didn’t matter. I mean in every town in America there are baseball games going on every weekend from the crack of ass until the end of the day. All Wrentham did was mash them together on one field yet they’re acting like this was the greatest single feat in the history of mankind. It makes no sense. I don’t think I’m exaggerating at all when I say this is literally the most unremarkable story/event I’ve ever heard of in my life.
